If you looked at the pics above for reference there is nothing to it..even my girlfriend can install a driveshaft as she demonstrated in my how to remove the rear diff write up.

And if you can swing it I would recommend replacing Tue carrier bearing..they are weak and wear out prematurely.

Another vote for removing it and having your local shop replace the u-joints and balancing.

I've never been one to bash dealerships as I've had good luck with all of the ones I've gone to, but I don't care where it's from, $1,400 is way too much for a driveshaft.

That pretty much says it right there. Unless there is massive flaky rust on that shaft, I call BS. Call around and ask for price to change all U joints on that shaft. Then make your decision who's going to do the job.

For that price I would ask what brand U Joints they are using. I would even pay extra for name brand stuff if necessary. Sounds a little low to me.

Theres not much rust at all, such a joke. He was guestimating the price. But i think i want to provide the u-joints when i take it in. Should i go with the u-joints from the dealership(75$ each)? The center bearing(200$)?

nothing is wrong with the driveshaft. I took the truck to the dealer to get the ujoints replaced. They called and said that the tech reccomended the driveshaft be replaced bc of rust. Gave it a look again last night and the rust was minimal, such a joke. The tech was just too lazy and wanted the easier more expensive job.

Shouldn't it be covered under the Rust Coverage Warranty (60 months/unlimited miles)? If the dealer says it's rust, then get it replaced no matter how small the amount of rust.

We have spicer driveshafts, finally remembered the name, which is a american DS one many american trucks. The DS shop will have spicer u joints, stock replacements, in stock. Carrier bearing is something u may want to look at but at stock height yours maybe completely fine... Lifts put stress on them and wear them out quickly, i ripped mine apart.

Seems like the rust perforation warranty only applies to the sheet metal on the body

Dude relax... The driveshaft should never need replacement. Ujoints, are dependent on use, i had one go bad at 65k. Just have someone thar knows what to look for do a 2 min check.

So if it matters about the putting it back on the way it came off and you put on an aftermarket one piece drive shaft, does it have to be put on a certain way?
