I live across the border, after brokerage and shipping id be looking at about OEM prices. I can get gates pulleys slightly cheaper than OEM in Canada but still with shipping its going to come close.

So here's some of the premium prices we pay here in the great white north.

    Bando $50
    Dayco - $42
    Contitech - $51
    Gates - $74
    Toyota OEM - $91!

Yes these are all prices of serpentine belts from several different retailers. Looks like I will be ordering from the States! Its not that I can't afford these, its the principal.

A $5.00 can of belt dressing WILL solve your problem....I have no idea what these other guys have against it...????

1... The dressing creates a sticky surface between the pulleys and the belt....
2... When sticky the belt does not slip...
3... If belt no slip....NO noise...
It's that simple guys...BUT... If it re-occurs, I'd suggest a new tensioner and/or belt is the fix....

    Have fun...

ive seen where the accessory's make noise..Alternator,water pump, idler, tensioner, power steering.etc..its probably not the belt, its one of the pulleys is making noise/locking up. Do you have ac? Alot of times the ac pulley will "chirp" when its starting to lock up.

All of the accessories spin nice and free. The A/C kicks on and off like it should. The only culprit could be the alternator, the truck is an 06, the battery is the original. The back side of the belt is glazed shiny after maybe 20 minutes of driving or so with a constant squeal, in my mind it has to be one of the idler/tensioner pulleys since its the back side that is getting shiny, and these are the only moving parts the back side of the belt comes in contact with. Il check them over and see if one is shiny smooth or marked up from the belt, should be easy to spot since I sandblasted all four.

** I do have access to probably the best rubber/belt dressing out there which creates a very grippy surface. But, I don't believe in band-aid solutions, I don't want this coming back every few months.

Another fun fact about my problem, it only comes up during cold months, and the belt will only chirp on startup for about 30 seconds on a really rainy day.

In my mind the only other thing that could be causing this is the belt running across the idlers at an angle, because the tensioner arm *could* have some play in it.

My 07 did the same thing. I went to Napa and bought a Napa belt and it's worked great. Very good quality.

For shits and giggles, take the belt off and start the truck. Does it squeek? With the truck running, look at the crank spin, does it go smooth and no wobbles?

Shut the truck off, spin and wiggle every pulley. Should be zero play.

Ive seen this done, and personally done it by accident on a customers car, felt like an assface when I finally figured out why the squeek didnt go away..MAKE SURE ITS ROUTED RIGHT..It may go on, but it may not be right. get the toyota belt routing diagram and check it, double check it.

Start the truck, if the squeek is still there, i dunno what to tell ya, its hard to diagnose over the internet.;)

for cheap insurance, replace the whole idler assembly. The spring may be getting weak in it, making the belt slip. When its cold, the belt may contract a bit enough for it to chirp/squeek, hence why it only does it when its cold.

Pretty much my thoughts as well. I really admire the manual tensioners and dual v-belts on my first gen toyota 4wd at this point. They have never made a single chirp, even underwater.
