Bolt on Wheel Bearing replacement?

    I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
    They dont make whole packages because it would have to cost like $300+ you would need new hub, new bearing, new seal and new 4 bolts.
    If people have parts and wants to ship it to me to put them together we can probably arrange something

    go to pamauto.com and if they have them in stock, they will be cheap, and you won't need a press.

    I'm not offended and I hope you aren't.

    It's the sheer amount of disinformation in here that pisses me off especially when people take the time to do the write ups and a simple search yields a gold mine of information on them.

    I always try to help, but it can get annoying when no one looks for themselves.

    I apologize for being harsh, but in the end you got your answer and plenty of links for threads containing the parts required and directions on how to do it.

    so the moral of the story is don't believe some boob at Autozone and search...if you see a thread on the topic you need help on post in it and ask the question - no need for a new thread IMO.

    That explains :D few days ago I saw fairly knew GMC Yukon on the side of the road with wheel broken off the truck and smoke pouring in. I guess they need to invest in better materials.

    Not offended. Thanks for the info. Looks like people have different methods as far as how to do this. I guess I was hoping that there was a way around pressing. Guess I'll see if I can find a shop to do that part.

    Napa did mine for less then $20 per side. Any machine shop with a guy who has 1/2 a brain can do it.

    That I dont know. Pressing that correctly is actually quite hard. I knew what to do with mine becasue I did my LC bearings. Getting everything to sit at level and at right tolerances is hard. Removing old bearing with out damaging the hub is not easy to. Thats why Toyota guys dont want to do this they want new hub and new bearing.
    Not gonna even mention repacking new bearing with grease. All in all its not simple if one want to done correctly.

    Replace in inner seals too. My bearings are fine but I have new seals sitting on my bench waiting to go in because mine are torn to hell. Guess that probably goes without saying.

    Yep Old good mechanics are gone from shops, they are either retired or doing something else. Drive to cost cutting replaced them with kiddos. I saw once how they were doing wheel bearing (I was buying parts during Toyota dealer renovation) and I feel bad for sucker that got that one. :D .

    thats one of those bearings that lasts 3k and cost 1k to do :rofl:


    Mine are still going strong and I'm still swamping her just about every weekend

    I have hated Toyota press-in bearing designs since our 86 Corolla. No way to grease the bearings on that and they weren't even sealed bearings, just separate seals. Every 30k miles pull the hub and press the whole shebang. Crap design all around.

    6" Fabtech lift Sliders (Elite Off Road) 4.56 gears (ECG)
    Just buy the bearing already all pressed together and then have someone else press it to your hub. Its pretty really easy to do and if the bearing goes bad again you have a warranty so not a big deal. Thats how I went about it when mine went out.
