Chipped Paint/Rust Spots

What's recommended for the touch up here? How should I clean up the area?

are all the chips down past the primer and rusting?

how big are they?



I usually use a Dremel to get to bare metal (if rusted) then use a filler/primer followed by color matched touch up and finally throw some wax on top. I only use Duplicolor and I have had good results.

If it's not down past the primer I scuff it up with an abrasive pad and then touch it up with a couple coats of paint then wax.

 

it's just one small chip the diameter of a BB..... and it is rusted a little bit....

 

Take it down to bare metal and follow the rust out...the rust will have crept under the paint and you will need to remove more paint then is currently chipped. If you do not get out all the rust out it will continue to corrode under the paint.

Just get a duplicolor primer/filler pan and a color matched pen from either Toyota or duplicolor

 

just get some fine sandpaper and wrap it around a pencil eraser?

 

I must have done over 50 chips on my truck and none of them have begun to rust from underneath or show any signs of trouble. I use a Dremel with a fine point stone for all of them (same as Ive done for the past 15 years).

No clue about a pencil eraser and sandpaper, but IMO it seems they may be to large to zero in and remove just the paint needed to get to the end of the rust.

 

Don't like power tools ... WD-40 and a rag ?
