Sorry I cannot post a picture or even look under the hood right now. I had foot surgery and I am on crutches. I was standing on the driver side when I asked the service writer about tranny fluid changes. At first he said no need if it is sealed. He then popped the hood and looked on the passenger side and turned and said "not a sealed tranny". I was thinking that I saw a dipstick myself. You all are going to make me get out there and check and re-injure my foot.

Don't bother checking.... The guy was hallucinating. The only dip stick under the hood of a 2nd generation automatic is for checking the engine oil level.

I just got mine flushed and filled at 55,000 it is a sealed tranny and costed $220. the other local dealer said $240. Both dealers said if towing get it done every 30,000. not towing every 60,000.

So, I had to get a new Tranny August 2011 (thankfully it was under warranty because I didn't have $3000+). Now they are saying that I need to get it flushed. :confused:I am confused:confused:. Can someone tell me what that's all about. Did they dump the same transmission fluid that was in the old one into the new one? The truck has 108k and the tranny has 10k-15k.

I just got my transmission flushed for the first time at 100,000 miles. I called the dealership to ask price and their procedure and they quoted me $165, said they flushed entire system with machine and it took 12 quarts. It was done to Toyota specs. I called twice to see if I got the same answer twice and I did, so I made the appointment. Work was done and I was paying and looked at the reciept to make sure they used WS and they had not used Toyota fluid at all. They used Valoline Max life. I question the girl and she told me they use all Valvoline fluids there. I went home and emailed Toyota and they replied by saying they should not have used anything other that Genuine Toyota WS and they recommended getting the Valvoline flushed out imediately. So I call the dealership and talked to the manager and his excuse was valvoline had a better waranty. I told him what Toyota Corp told me and he said to bring back in and they would use Toyota WS. I asked him how would I know they used WS? Could I watch the process including them pouring in the proper fluid? He said yes, if thats what made me happy. So that is what i did. 12 quarts Toyota WS into the flush machine then into my truck. So I got my transmission flushed twice in less than 100 miles for 165 bucks.

You know that dealer lost money on that deal. Only reason they could do it so cheap was because they were using Valvoline fluid. Still makes me wonder, is there really a difference? How did the tranny operate while you had it filled with the Valvoline?

What do you mean they wont do it? All you have to do is say "do it now".

They can not tell you what you can and can not do with your truck. You own it not them.

Are you under an extended warrantee? Do they want to wait until you are out of it?

I only drove it from the dealership home and then back to the dealership to get it flushed again (around 100 miles) but i could not tell a difference in shifting or performance.
