I've had both the 4cyl. 5-speed and the V-6 6 spd, and I had much more trouble with the 5 speed (2009); immediately off the lot poor clutch performance and life, grinding between shifts, gotta have that pedal all the way down...

I have a 2012 V-6 TRD 4X4 with the 6 speed, and I find it much smoother and forgiving. Maybe the 2012s are improved.

seems to be the consensus that toyota quietly upgraded the MT in the 2012 but no proof yet.

The 6 speed manual is better for you and many others but the 5 speed automatic is better for me and many others.

I owned a v6 6 speed and now own an auto 5speed. I think the auto is way better for me. I simply don't have to the be " in tune" with my ride all the time. And when getting stuck in traffic,(hope not) I can just relax. If I want to shift I can in the auto, but don't very often. But the biggest thing for me is the trucks ability to get up to speed quickly, for me this is done way faster by the auto transmission. I really feel i get too use more of the truck power with the auto, but that's just me.

If you want a manual , get that .

If you want an auto , get that .

If you want a DC and need a real box , you have to get the auto .

5 speed automatic is a better choice IMO. You will get better fuel economy, a better driving experience when cold, and an overall more advanced transmission.

auto's cool but you don't look as tough as when you're driving a 6sp.

It's so much easier to text while driving, shave, and/or masturbate when you don't have to worry about shifting.

I would agree 100% with this. with auto you can usually do 2 of the 3. MT only 1 if at all.
