Learn to hypermile, although with the Tacoma forget doing any FAS (period) or coasting in neutral (unless you have a LONG time to stop).

Or mildly hypermile, like me. Accelerate at 80% load, shift at 1800 rpm, have in highest gear whenever possible and not accelerating, use cruise control, drive 55 mph when there's traffic and 50 when there's not, and coast down in DFCO for as long as is practical in 6th and 4th gears.

A little over sticker for tire pressure doesn't hurt, athough above 40 psi you'll never see the difference in mpg.

As they say, adjust the nut between the seat and steering wheel.

Get a Scan Gauge and learn how to use it to change driving habits for the best MPGs.

^^^ all that, I was asking the same questions and ended up putting in a performance airfilter ( AFE Pro dry; keep it clean), a catback exhaust (TRD), and next a tonneau cover (access rollup) should net maybe 1-2 mpg gains. Synthetics in everything ie. oil may help you out as well. They probably wont pay for themselves anytime soon, but I can tell a bit of difference in power on the highway etc. and I'm glad I have them regardless of fuel economy so its a win-win. With all this; I can get 22mpg in the summer; keep in mind I'm running BFG all terrains in a slightly larger/heavier size than stock with this setup as well, with stock road slicks you could maybe do better.

Scangauge, 245 tires as light as possible, alloy rims as light as possible, clean air filter, at least 91 octane gas, keep your speed down and steady input on the throttle (see Scangauge output for help there), don't idle, avoid driving in citys and traffic, stay on the highway, keep the truck unloaded, keep the tail gate up, don't bolt any racks or extras on that will make more aero drag, and don't tow anything. I'm sure there's more things you can do.

Cool

Thanks everyone for the great info! I'm getting 18mpg right now so I'm hoping to get 20mpg or better in the summer
