Toyota putting in an AAL in place of the TSB pack?

Tomorrow I'm taking my truck down to the local spring shop and they are going to put in an extra leaf into the stock leaf pack in place of replacing the whole leaf pack. The guy at toyota said the people who have had this done like it more than the TSB pack. has this happened to anyone else? will this new leaf work with a 2" AAL?

 

I am going to the dealership tomorrow to get the TSB. I can let you know in the afternoon.

Your title is confusing, is Toyota sending you to get the AAL and refusing the TSB or just recommending it? Your guy at Toyota is correct, a lot of people complain that the TSB makes the rear-end a lot stiffer. Some (only some) wish they would not have done the TSB. I had the TSB done because I was hauling brush and the rear was sagging at < 300lbs. Personally I didn't really notice much difference with the ride and it's a truck not a Caddy so I don't care, also I wanted to be able to hold some groceries without the bed sagging.

The TSB will be a bit stiffer than factory. The TSB will give you a little bit of rear lift, like a inch or so, whereas the AAL will add whatever you chose. I ran the TSB for a bit, now I run billies up front at 2.5 and the TSB with an AAL. Rides just fine to me.

 

Sorry just read you second post, I think this is a crap way of getting around the TSB. Maybe someone with a little more experience will chime in but I don't think an AAL helps with your payload, meaning, if you want to be able to haul shit an AAL won't help with overall sagging. If you just want a lift and softer ride, sure go this AAL route but if you are worried about how much you can haul, you should look further into this matter. This seems like a shady way for your dealership to get around performing the TSB.

 

Parts are in for my TSB, just got to get home to get my truck into the shop. Will upgrade front with new shocks to level it out

 

really? see that was the problem i haul my sled around and now my back end sits so low after having it in there all winter not to mention how shitty it was with it in there all winter. The guy at the dealership assured me it would fix the problems I have while hauling stuff. My appointment was at 8AM this morning to drop off my truck at watertown springs and alignment, I may just drop it off allow them to do the AAL and then see if that fixes it. If not i will be right back in that guys office.

If anyone has anymore info on which would be better the TSB or letting toyota do the AAL i would really appriciate it, Im not machanically inclined at all so they could be blowing smoke up my ass about this and i would have no idea!

 

Actually, the AAL helps a lot with the sagging. Before my AAL, a bed rail high load of oak would have positive arch in my springs. After the AAL the same sized load still has some negative arch and it won't bottom out over bumps.

 

On a newer model year, you'll get the same results with the AAL's as you would a TSB leaf set. On an older model say 05-09 you might see less do to the old leafs sagging from age. AAL's will give you lift and carrying capacity increase the same as TSB.

 

Yep but I added the extra leaf to the TSB -- so I have 4 plus the helperspring.

Way better than the unacceptable TSB. I can load 4 adults plus gear and i dont feel like i am dragging my ass all over the place

I got my TSB leafs today with no hassles, they installed the full 4 pack leaf springs.. I went from 21.25 inches to 23 inches.

 

It isn't the customer's decision on how Toyota corrects an issue as long as they(Toyota) correct it in a safe and effective manner. If Toyota chooses to pay for an AAL install to fix a problem due to a customer complaint then that's their choice. If the customer doesn't like it then they can reject it or keep on fighting with Toyota.

Good to know. I just dropped my truck off for the TSB. I thought I was going to have to lift the front to level it out.

 

The amount and how quick it settles is determined by the weight you put in the bed , most people see an increase of 3/4 - 1" over the 3 leaf pack after settling .

 

Got the AAL today. HUGE difference now the front isn't higher than the rear lol evan after it settles hopefully it will be better than just the standard set now. I'll be doing my 3" lift this weekend. pics to fallow

Do you have part nubers for the new leaf packs installed?
My dealer ordered the parts for replacing mine on my 09 DC LB Sport 4x4.

Not the same part nubers on the 12/10 TSB

 

Make sure you get the work done before you 3yr/60000 km warranty runs
out or your out of $$$,not covered by the (ECP).
