Almost a new tacoma owner

Hi All. I have been researching the tacomas and I am very close to making a final decision. This site has been most helpful

I am looking at a 2007 double cab 4x4 short bed with the TRD Off Road package with the towing package in Silver.

My dealer can give it to me at $28200 including all taxes and fees.

IS this a good deal or should i keep looking?
Also what should I expect to pay for an extended warranty?

I am currently driving a chevy 2500HD and the mileage is killing me (ave 12.5MPG)

Thanks for the help.

Scott

Dont even look at MSRP, i got the same thing you are looking at with 4 wheel drive for $26,500 out the door. I definately think you can do better. No idea what the extended warrenty cost though, i turned it down. One reason i bought a toyota is because of their quality so i didnt want an extended warrenty

I agree you need to find out what the invoice is and start from there.

Short bed

Towing package
6 disk cd changer and 6 speakers

floor mats

Thanks

Ok, that makes a little more sense now. I have everything you have except the 6 disk cd and the bed extender, so yours should be a little over 26.5k. You also didnt originally mention the 4x4 part which is why i thought that was steep for a 4x2 vehicle. I would guess around 27.5-28 would be a descent deal, but you may still be able to get it cheaper, i dont know. The bed extender shouldn't be too much and you can probably get it cheaper aftermarket so you may not want to pay the dealer for it. The cd player is up to you. I personally didnt care if i had a changer or not and was definately not going to pay for it but if its something you reallly want then go for it. If i were you i would shoot for 27 to 27.5, but thats just me. Good luck, let us know how everything comes out

The $28200 I mentioned above included the sales tax/title/ and all fees as well.

I think I am going to go for it.

I will post more details as soon as I can.

Thanks

Cool, i'm sure you'll be happy with it. One last piece of advice, make sure you drive the actual truck you're buying before you commit to anything. Some of these trucks have a low speed shudder around 1st or 2nd gear or around 20-25mph. Some trucks have a slight shudder, some seem to be fairly severe. Personally my truck occasionally feels like i'm driving on a rough patch of assphalt even when i'm on smooth pavement. It only last for a brief second and is barely noticable to me, and so far no passenger has noticed it. However, some people on this forum have sold their trucks right after buying them because the vibration was so severe. Like i said, some trucks exhibit this and some don't. Just cause the truck you test drove was smooth does not mean the one you buy will be. My advice is to drive the exact truck before signing anything and just be aware of how it feels at low speeds. Like i said i barely notice mine but i'd hate for you to get home and notice it later and it be too late. hope everything works out well and welcome to TW!!

and if you already test drove the truck you're going to buy, tell them you wanna drive it again before you commit. Then if you still like it, then buy the hell out of it and start posting on this site ASAP!

Purchase

Smokeon-No disrespect to ndcouch but MSRP is very relevant to pricing. That number is consistent to the options that your truck has. I should know, I am a Toyota Sales associate for the last 4 years. Your number at 28,200 including taxes, tags, etc. is a very good number. Buy it and start enjoying!!!!

Thanks for the advice.
I have not driven the exact truck yet as it is supposed to be on the way to the dealers lot. I drove a similar truck that they had at the time.
If all goes as they claim should arrive in 7-10 days. I will certainly be driving that one before signing.

...cant wait

Scott

MSRP gives you a very rough estimate of what you should pay. MSRP for my truck was slightly over 30k and i got $3500 off that after a few weeks of negotiation and walking out on sales reps. Invoice price is much more relevant to what you should pay than MSRP. MSRP is simply what the dealer wants to fleece you for but they are willing to go much lower just tomake the sale

I would never pay msrp for any new vehicle. I dealt with the Internet sales department they will usually give you the best deal.

I will never pay msrp for anything. i just use it to get a ballpark of the cost. I use the internet or my bargaining skills (aka being a stubborn ass) to get it much cheaper. I have only paid msrp for two items in the last 5 years. An Ipod, and an xbox 360. Mainly because the 360 was an impulse buy and apple never gives discounts on their products new.

Msrp

Gentlemen, You have taken MSRP the wrong way. That is only significant to make sure you are talking apples for apples on any given truck and options.
Smokeown got a very nice discount off the 30,000+ MSRP to get to 28,200 w/ taxes and tags included. That's why I told him he got a great deal. Just because I am a Toyota salesman doesn't mean my fellow TacomaWorld buddies can't trust my advice! Yes when the truck comes in drive it by all means first. Smokeon ,welcome to the Toyota Tacoma family!
