Surprise LSD :)

I bought my truck three weeks ago (from a Honda dealer so they didn't know anything about it) and as far as I knew it was a normal SR5 4*4. But I was just checking the spare and noticed the "LSD Oil Only" sticker.

Needless to say I'm pretty excited about that surprise. Anything I need to know about maintaining it or what to expect as far as performance?

 

Post some pics of the truck. Maybe you got a TRD Sport.

I'm pretty sure that the lack of hood scoop and power outlet in the bed mean it's just a normal SR5, but nevertheless I'm stoked about the better differential.

 

A lot of the V6 SR5's with the TRD off road wheels had the LSD option. At least around here. Nice to have!

Some SR5s have the same wheels as the TRD OR.

Best way to tell if its a TRD are the seats and power outlet. And then to determine Off Road vs. Sport look at the differential. Door handles and the hood are commonly swapped out, so they aren't really a good indicator. Neither are the stickers, because a lot of dealers/people will add them to non TRD trucks and try to claim the are TRD, and a lot of people remove them from actual TRD trucks. Nobody swaps out the TRD seats unless they're going leather.

 

Yeah I know I definitely don't have a TRD- no power outlet, no locker (for off road), and base seats.

But having nicer wheels is another nice surprise.

last time i had surprise lsd i ended up in a butt ass nekked in a field

 

??? I thought all the tacomas had a limited slip diff... Kinda weird that you have to push a button to turn it on in the 09+

 

'09 and up is all electronic-LSD meaning it uses the brakes to try and limit one tire spinning faster than the other. 05 to 08 Sports, and some SR5s use a mechanical LSD with clutch packs in the diff

 

Nope. My truck has a locker, and an open diff when unlocked.

You dont have to press a button to turn on the LSD, it would be rather useless if you did.

 

I've got an 07 SR5 access cab, standard steel wheels originally, and it had an LSD

 

So if I have a 08 trd off road I do not have a limited slip diff bc I have a locker that I can only use in 4 lo under 5mph? Wtf?

 

I think you're right..but I use my locker pushing 3rd gear in 4low all the time. Doesn't seem to hurt..
