New Tacoma - Need a bed cover

Hello Everyone,
Long time Toyota owner but first Toyota truck. I have been doing some research on covers and have narrowed it down to likely a fold type cover. I was ready to pull the trigger on a Bakflip F1 but when reading the reviews on Amazon, I discovered that it wasn't water tight. This is important to me as well as some measure of security. The security prerequisite eliminates the roll top (ie truxedo). The solid one piece are just to large and I don't want to have to take it on and off as needed.

I'm hoping for your guys' expertise and experience on this. I was again checking on Amazon and found this:

http://www.amazon.com/TonnoPro-Tri-F...9691859&sr=1-1

because it looks weatherproof although it has no lock. Even though the few reviews were high, the low price kind of scares me. So is there anything comparable to the Bakflip that is weatherproof or can anyone attest to the fact that it will keep out water?

Many thanks.

You get what you pay for. A co-worker has this on his Tacoma. He said over all he likes it. He compared it to his neighbor that has a extant tri fold cover and he said they are almost identical. He said the hardware and latches on the extant are a little better quality. I have the Bak flip G2 and I love it although it is not 100% water tight it does a good job. There are a few spots that I can make it waterproof by sealing it better I just have not crawled in the bed while it was shut to see where the leaks are. If you get a soft cover I don't think it will be much of a theft deterrent.

FYI - I just sold a Bakflip F1. A great hard folding cover.
It was 99% water tight. The little bit you get in is negligible IMO. This water leak thing on the F1 has been blown way out of proportion.

I just picked up my new cover and feel it is the best trifold hard cover on the market. They took the Bakflip F1 design and made it even better for less $$$

Take a look at it......I highly recommend it !!
Made out of the exact same material as the F1

Thanks for the info. I really like the F1 and the water was the only concern so I think I will go for it.

I have just one other question. Most of the sites I have visited have the F1 cover anywhere from $880 on up. I thought to check ebay just in case they had new ones in stock and was amazed to seem them way cheaper NEW! Have any of you bought your cover on Ebay? The best price I saw for my Tacoma was $818. That is way lower but I'm not sure whether to purchase it from Ebay regardless of the feedback rating. Your thoughts?

Buy a undercover flex...... It is exactly the same cover material, etc as the bakflip F1 with some nicer features and a lot less $$ to boot. Check it out, if you like the F1 you would love the Flex and save some cash as well.

I like mine.

New Tacoma - Need a bed cover-img_0225.jpgI bought and have installed on my Taco the very one you show on Amazon. It's great, no complaints.

It's also waterproof, much more than I expected. Even after going to high pressure car wash.

I then did the Dynolock electric tailgate and it's fairly secure. Can't get in without doing damage, so it stops curious would be thieves.

Love the look and extra bit of security.

Mine is a ProEFX, looks identical to the one in Amazon.Click image for larger version

Hey Surfer,
I don't understand. Did you buy the one on Amazon or did you buy the PRO EFX? Did you consider the pop n lock before you got that dyno? Is the dyno some type of tailgate lock?

I decided to buy the Bakflip F1. Tremendous price on Ebay already at around $830 but they were had a "Make an Offer" thing on the ad so I entered, $808 and they accepted it! Free shipping. Stoked.
We'll see how it arrives

You could have had a undercover Flex for less than that!

I got the F1 too, but I have been having trouble getting the truck ha ha ha. The cover is in the box in my garage but the truck is still waiting to be delivered. Hope to see pics of yours installed because mine is taking forever.

I bought a white Tacoma double cab short bed with the SR5 package. With the tinted windows, bedliner and cover, it is going to look incredible. I don't normally buy white. My last 4 cars have been earth tones, usually a silver metallic but I bought a home in Arizona and so I want to keep it as cool as possible.

Elytravis, what kind of truck did you buy that you have to wait for it? That would drive me craz!

The back flip F1 and the undercover flex (essentially the same cover) can both be broken into in seconds, even if you have the pop-n-lock for your tailgate. You can get right into them with a coat hangar in about 10 seconds even if you lock your tailgate handle.
So if security is a big concern, go with a locking one piece fiberglass lid.

I ordered a Nautical Blue TRD Sport (Non Upgrade) DCLB with Entune 4X4 w/ tow pkg. You would never believe how hard it is to find all that in one package. Short beds and Off road pkg's are more common...If I found the truck it didn't have Entune, if it had Entune it wasn't a 4X4. The one on order is coming with the floor mats and the exaust tip...I wanted the entire exaust but can do it later. I bought the F1 because the truck was coming "any day" in CA and I could get the cover at the factory. The truck fell through and I drove the cover in the back of a rental all the way home to Ne. Ordered my truck there instead...was told 3 weeks...then deployed just before delivery. This cycle never ends, but the will hold the truck until I get back. Ha ha ha

Sorry Bro, didn't see your reply till now. I bought the one on Amazon and it is/was the ProEFX. Twas about $230 or so I recall, it's great.

I did consider the pop n lock but the Dyno had better reviews and I think, it was cheaper.

The Dyno is an electric tailgate lock, works great. I installed in under an hour, would have been 30 mins or so if their colors on the instructions were better.

Edit: here's the link to that thread:

I decided on the dyno instead of the pop n lock also. As for security, I don't expect it to keep out everyone. Anyone who is determine enough or a professional will have no problem getting in but I am just trying to keep out the casual passerby.

Ely, the anticipation would kill me!. Please post a photo when you get it.

How can you make a truck that is lacking the comforts that every American made truck offers as a standard options?

Heated "heated, leather, electrically adjusted seats"

Anyone have an idea where i can find a shop or pro in the northern calif Bay area to install ""heated, leather, electrically adjusted seats". I know the tundra has it all, But that not what i want.. I intend to buy a 2013 fully loaded Tacoma 4x4, short bed 4 door truck in 2013 , 15 months before i retire so i am ready to buy the best 4x4 fully loaded Tacoma.. BUT i want these seats, so any suggestions would be great.
the dealers only know how to sell the truck after that they are not much help with this subject matter of heated leather seats. We had a great shop that went out of business in Redwood city called "California Concepts", and now i have no where to ask these question.
