I just got myself a radar\laser detector for my truck. It was pretty much an offer I could'nt refuse.

I'm just wondering if any of you have any creative was to mount it, or if you just want to post pictures of your mounted anyways so I can get an idea of where to put mines!

well there is supposed to be a cerian place to mount it. only know this cause my friend is a speed demon racer in a subaru wrx with a valintine or whatever the real expensive radar....he claims there is a proper place to mount it. but i bet that all depends on what kind you have.

ideally you'd want it mounted high and in the center of your windshield IIRC

My Escort sits on the dash with a ball cap over it. I can see the front, but the rest of the unit is covered and shaded. The back of the hat is mess so laser is not problem. Works great

I've got an Escort Passport 8500 x50. Had it in my Accord V6 6-speed when I was young and stupid and drove way too fast. :) Never got rid of it so I thought I'd throw it in the new truck.

I mounted mine in the upper left area of the windshield. I've always used it there with great success. It's hidden pretty well unless you're really looking for it. It hides just under the tint of the windshield. Also, Escort makes like a 10 foot flat straight cord that I ran under the rubber on the cab door surround and then behind/under the carpet behind the pedals.. it comes out right at my left dc plug. So basically you only see like 6 inches of wire. I plan to hotwire it one day but it looks pretty sweet as is so I may just be lazy and keep this setup for a while.

I have one i tried mounting it in different places seems like anywhere in the front windshield works the same. Mount it low cuz if its up high its a better target for theives. i find its more useful for detecting cars in traffic because my internal radar detector always spots them or i know theres a trap up ahead before R2D2 goes off:p Maybe i just need a more sensitive model.

Phs, radar detector who needs those?

If you want something that will keep the cops from detecting your speed you might as well get a radar jammer.:D

Thanks for the input guys! I'd like to use it on the lower left side of my windshield.
So it seems like I shouldn't have to much of an issue.

As far as answering some of you questions,

It is an Escort Passport 8500 x50. I bought it for $80 off of craiglist and it's still in great shape. From what I've read, it's one of the better detectors on the market and it retails for near $300.

There's nothing wrong with driving the speed limit, but my commute is 50 miles a day. 60% uphill going and 60% downhill coming home. So sometimes when I'm tired driving home I don't realize how fast I'm going coming down the hill so I figured better safe than sorry.

The detector will only be used for my commute back and forth to work, I dive my Benz alot when I got out to keep the miles down on my truck. So I'm not concerned with anyone stealing it since I park in a private lot.

Thanks again for the input guys, let me know if you have any other ideas!

Work buddy uses one, and he swears it has saved him from many, many speeding tickets. The cops just sit by the road and wait, constantly running the radar.

I don't use one. I'm quite content to drive the speed limit. If the highway dept wants me to slow down there's usually a reason for it. Still though, sometimes I'm just out on a lonely highway and forget to keep my foot off the gas.

Also I've noticed the roads around here are ridiculously unpatrolled unless you're near town or a couple hot spots between the "major" towns and the oil fields. Rig hands must make ND Highway Patrol rich. :D

And here in SC we have to be able to visually estimate the speed of the vehicle anyways

There are hold buttons in the cruisers which dont broadcast the radar beams Until the button is pressed. by then you're already hosed- making your detector somewhat useless anyways... Hope you got a really good deal haha

Rode with a PO friend. He'd keep the radar off until he visually saw a speeder and zap them. You might get lucky if your detector picked up on it while he painted someone else. He usually gave you 10 then would give his own mother a ticket. It was fun to be on the other side of the Blue Lights, I learned a lot. Most depts have a program for civilian ride alongs. well worth it. My only complaint is that professional courtesy thing. Out of state PO going 65 in a 45 and he gets to skate.
