Yeah I understand they are diff systems and that your trucks use fly by wire but figured I'd try the 2nd gen guys as most of you have owned a 1st gen plus the 1st gen guys recommended hit my linkage with a rubber hammer real hard. Not really an answer I was looking for!
Vacuum leak wouldn't explain the bouncing idle durning coasting??? Plus the bouncing only stops when I slow down to past 5mph or slower ie dead stop but still sits at 1100-1200.
Something's up guess I'll start double checking everything again. Thanks

I'm now having the same issue too: My girlfriend's '04 Taco, V6, Auto, 4x4, it's now idling @ 1200-1400 rpm's, but it's not surging. Her airfilter was really dirty, plugs were really worn & looked at least 40k old, throttle body was very dirty too. I asked her if she'd run the baja1000 or something.. :/

I changed the plugs, new airfilter, & wiped out the throttle body really well as it had some buildup too. I only removed the intake snorkel to get to the plugs & left the throttle body in place. I'll assume the ECU's 'relearning' things now & will idle back down soon, but reading these posts it sounds like it may take a while..

If it doesn't idle back down by this weekend I'll disconnect the battery & see if that solves it. I'll let y'all know what I find out.

Yep, GF says the idle is now back down to normal after driving it for a couple days, so all is well.

I have the same problem, the RPM bounces between 1000-1400 when I coast (5AT) and it goes down to 750 rpms at lower speeds. The vehicle used to settle at 750-800 rpms when i coast from any speed. Could this issue be solved by changing the throttle body?

Has anyone checked the MAF Sensor. They are easy to damage and "could cause " this type of problem.

Truck was idling correctly prior to below actions...

I disconnected from my battery to clean the terminals. Upon reconnection the engine was surging to determine idle. Seems like the ECR is trying to determine where it needs to be idling.

I now know never to disconnect my batter unless necessary.

Did you get the vacuum line back on the back side of the intake?
