Temperature/compass doesn't work

I'm at work right now so I haven't had a chance to open it up and see what the problem is but: I just bought my truck a week ago (2005) and I knew the compass/temp gauge didn't work but I'm hoping its an easy fix, such as a bulb out, a popped fuse or just a loose connection, I was reading up on it a little and a few people said two connections come loose and just needs a simple re-soldering, but just two questions I have since I know everyone on this forum is super helpful and has pictures of just about everything, how do I even open it up to get the circuitry out or change a bulb? Secondly, anyone have pictures of which wires to solder? Thanks so much for the help guys, I just got my truck a week ago and this forum is awesome for helping me out with silly questions like this.

Just tried this on mine and it worked great!

I could not see any problem with mine but I went ahead and soldered it and it works.

I did this fix myself and haven't had a problem since.

 

My husband's company builds circuit boards (similar to that).

When we opened mine up to do the repair, he couldn't believe how PISS POOR the soldering joints were. So yeah, it's a common problem.

 

It worked one day and now it's out again. I will try it again. Must be my lousy soldering.

 

Oh wow I was about to order a new one thank god I saw this I'll try it out tonight.

 

How about the crews control does any body have ideas as how to go abot fixing or check what can be wrong?
