Weird. I'd imagine you would be covered under warranty. Take it to the dealer.

Its normal. You will go to the dealer and they will tell you its inherant to the vehicle. Both my 2007 & my 2011 shudder slightly at 5-7 mph. Im so used to it I dont even notice it anymore. On my 2007 off road I had the Tranmision Mount TSB done, it helped a lot. My 2011 isnt as noticable. But I only have a few miles on it.

Hi all, this is my fist post. This is my first truck too. (I don't count the fact that my wife has a 2011 Tundra Rock warrior) I got tired of driving the family station wagon (Toyota Venza) so I traded it in for the Tacoma. Other than a few quirks, I really like this truck.
I have the same shudder when slowing down. I feel the shudder at around 10-15 mph. I first thought it was the road surface, but it did it all the time. My wife was the first one to notice it. I have about 800 miles on the truck. I also have a shudder when accelerating moderately from a dead stop. The harder the truck accelerates the stronger the shudder. The shudder while accelerating happens at around 15-25 mph. I bought this truck about three weeks ago. Don't get me wrong, I really like the truck. I just feel that a $30+K brand new vehicle should not shudder like this. I have an appointment at the dealership tomorrow morning. I was there last week for a quick road test, the technician verified the shudder when accelerating. I didn't hear anything from the dealer since then, so I am bringing it back for them to tell me what they can do about it, if any.

My 2007 has always done this. Dealership did the transmission tsb mount also, no change. Replaced driveshaft, no change. Rear spring TSB, no change. I got tired of taking it in after that and found on here that there isn't a good definite fix for it, so I stopped worrying about it.

Normal or not, it's really annoying to have a new truck shudder like this. I dropped of the truck to the dealership this morning. I road tested the same model today, and no not all 2012 Tacomas shudder. This one did not. Mine does. So, I road tested my Tacoma with the service manager. He felt the shudder too. I called to check up on it, and the service adviser told me that they contacted toyota and at this time the technician has removed the driveshaft and is checking it out. Then they said they will drive it in 4wd and see if the shudder in still there. Wow, too complicated. I hope it will get better. I do like the truck, I just wish it didn't do these quirky things.

I have less than 90 miles on my Offroad manual 2012 and the shudder on accel from 5 to 25 is worsening. It feels exactly like a bad driveshaft normally does - but I wouldn't usually expect that until 150,000 or more miles. This shudder long term will affect other components. I'm going to drop it off at the dealer this week. I'm going to refer to it as the Japanese earthquake option. I'm not very happy about this and the crappy Aisin transmission in it.

Update: I read up on other threads, it may be that Toyota assembled our trucks with an inherent incorrect driveline angle fail. I'll post another update after the dealer investigates next week.

The dealer personel asked me to come in at 8am this morning to test drive my Tacoma with only the front drive shaft installed. The truck was in 4x4 so it would act like a front wheel drive vehicle. Would you believe I didn't feel any vibration with the rear drive removed. Both vibrations (accell and slowing down vibrations) were gone. The dealer told me that this is what toyota wanted them to check. I was told they could re install the drive shaft so I could take the truck for the weekend and on Monday the dealer will contact Toyota with their findings. The dealer mentioned that most likely they will order a new drive shaft. I will leave an open mind and see what happens.

The dealership was told by Toyota to shim the drive shaft bearing carrier by about 2mm. Guess what, didn't fix it. I even think either the issue is getting worse or the failed modification made the condition worst. I am waiting for the service manager to get back to me. It's been over a week since I picked up the truck from the dealership. It would be nice if someone would get back to me. I'm tempted to call Toyota customer care department. The only reason I have not is because I don't want to create any waves at the dealership. I may just wait another week to see if I here anything from the dealership.

amazing to me that a simple rear set up around since the steam engine still comes out of the assembly line with "issues" at all, specially from Toyota.
