Tacoma TRD seat covers? and..Mine are for sale!

I purchased the ones from Toyota and they fit like a glove BUT the black rubber strip down the middle gets crazy hot and fries my back on hot days. Does anyone know another manufacturer for custom covers??? The seat is odd in that there is no real separation (in the back ) between the seat-back and seat-bottom, so a traditional two part seat cover doesnt work(I got one from California Car Covers and had to send it back for that reason). The one from toyota had sort of a dowel sewn in to a piece in the cover and you tucked that in between the seatback and seat bottom to secure the cover. It worked great but the cover itself was too hot for me.


BTW...if anyone wants to buy mine, I am selling them (like new!)

i have the same seat covers. i havent parked the truck yet in the sun. but i cant seem to tuck the dowel in far enough. it keeps popping out. annoying!

 

Try Wet Okole seat covers. They're really pricey, but every owner that has them loves them.

haha is your husband up for a drive. i am about ready to throw the things to the curb.

 

All it takes to correctly install the TRD covers is:
A. socket (14 mm IIRC) and wrench
B. wire cutters
C. four zip ties

What you do is:
1. Unbolt the seat from the floor and disconnect the electrical connection under the seat.
2. Turn seat over and cut the two hog rings holding the lower rear flap to the underside of the seat.
3. Remove the plastic dowel from the loop in the center of the TRD seats.
4. Slide the center of the TRD seatcover through the joint between the seat back and seat bottom. You need to slide the loop through far enough that you can re-install the plastic dowel into the loop after pulling it through the joint.
5. Remove the head rest and stretch the top of the seatcover over the seat back (you will have to work at it, but it is doable)
6. Stretch the seatcover bottom over the bottom of the seat bottom.
7. Fold the rear seat flap back under the seat (the one you cut free up in item 2) and zip tie it back to the same underwire that you removed it from up in item 2.
8. Re-attach the electrical connection under the seat and re-bolt the seat back onto the floor.
9. Cover the headrest and put back onto seat.
10. Do second seat.

When you do as above, the cover will not come off or even come loose because the loop with plastic dowel is on the backside of the joint and it will not come back through since it is to large. This is why it is so difficult to push it through that seat joint in the first place. When I installed my TRD seatcovers this way (after trying to first install them like you did), my seatcovers are so tight, that I can flip a quarter on them.

 

wow....Panama Red really went all out!! My huband said the key is to put the back on first (taking off the headrest) and then tuck in the dowel, one side at a time. Then the bottom gets pulled tight over the seat bottom. He did it in about 15 minutes and it fit very tight (like it should). When I tried to do it first, it was saggy and lame and the dowel was nowhere near tucked in!! Try this method and let us know how it goes!!

 

BTW...my hubby said you really have to STUFF the the dowel way in and it isnt easy. You have to keep stuffing it in till you feel it get by the seat parts. No wonder I couldnt do it...gotta have some muscle to get that dern thing seated (no pun intended) correctly!!

yes, they sold quickly. i bought the wet okole ones instead...like em much better.
