ATF Overflow

Purchased a used 2009 Tacoma PreRunner without a factory towing package. Added an engine oil cooler and a transmission cooler. The installs were relatively simple, however, when I went to top off the ATF after the transmission cooler install, I opened the overflow valve and about 1/3 of a quart of ATF drained out. Does this mean the obvious, that the ATF was over the required level?

Please help.

The overflow must be opened with the engine running and the trans at operating temperature between 115 and 130^F

Thanks. The only issue now is that the 2WD's don't have the check temperature light. Any ideas?

The V6 Prerunners with the 5spd auto do.
It's the 4 cylinders that apparently don't (running out now to verify if mine has a dipstick or not)
