So I was at Home Depot parked next to an FJ with an OEM roof rack and I was wondering if I could install the FJ rack on my truck or if anyone has experimented? I haven't measured anything out, I'm just imagining the FJ rack installed backwards on the access cab roof. The basket part would be on the roof while the longer bars would extend off the truck cab into the bed space. I could weld extensions down to the bed rails. I'm just brainstorming but it might work...:notsure:

Personally, why. If you want a roof rack there are much better looking ones for our truck.

I wouldn't want a roof mounted rack tied to the bed. The bed flexes a lot so I could see that doing some damage to the cab if they're tied together. Otherwise, I kind of agree with Mitch. I like the looks of the FJ rack but can't see going through all the effort when Thule and Yakima already make nice systems for our truck. Someone did custom fit a double can rack onto an Access Cab and it looked pretty sharp though!

I really like the look of the body armor rack for the Tacoma but it just looks too tall and too busy on the truck...it was just a thought...and I liked the look of the OEM rack on the FJ. I saw the build thread on the access cab and I think I might go that route. You make a lot of sense about the bed flexing. I never really thought about a solid-mounted roof rack with bars running down and connecting to the bed. That could be a lot of force on the metal. Ok, I'm glad I posted. Thanks for the info.
