We keep talking about this because half of us are expecting refunds and half are worried about airbag failures. Trust me... if Toyota would issue me $505.00 check right now... I would gladly take it and patiently wait for replacement part to arrive. I had my spiral cable replaced with "temporary fix" but I also had to pay for it through multiple visits to the dealership and half a thousand smackaroos. If you were in my shoes you would understand.

Q3b: Are all Tacoma vehicles covered by this Safety Recall?

A3b: No, only Tacoma vehicles equipped with a 7 channel circuit spiral cable assembly are covered by this Safety Recall. Tacoma vehicles equipped with a 16 channel circuit spiral cable are not affected by this condition.

Q3c: Why are Tacoma vehicles equipped with a 16 channel circuit spiral cable not

    covered by this Safety Recall?

A3c: Although certain circuits in the spiral cable assemblies using FFC's with sixteen-channel

circuits that connect to optional steering wheel features also can be damaged, these

particular damaged circuits are not being used for any function in these models. The air

bag circuit in these cables is not affected.

Q3d: What is the difference between the 7 channel circuit spiral cable and the 16 channel one?

A3d: The 7 channel circuit spiral cable assembly was installed on Tacoma vehicles that DO NOT contain steering wheel audio control buttons. Tacoma vehicles that are equipped with steering wheel audio control buttons have a 16 channel spiral cable assembly.

    More to come

Understood. You addressed that with me personally, and I thanked you for it. Still do. But as far as I'm concerned, notifying the board that the 2nd letters are circulating is good info. It doesn't mean anybody has disregarded yours so don't take it so personally.

    Cheers.

Has anyone had this done yet? I scheduled mine to be done next Saturday, I am always nervous having anyone (especially the dealership) work on my vehicles. They claim it will take 6hrs to turn it around, despite my claim otherwise. (Dublin Toyota)

6 hrs??? It takes like 30 minutes start to finish. Gotta allow for time to get it in and out of the shop, probably an hour or so. I have done plenty of them, very easy.

Wheel needs to come off, right?

Easy DIY with a wheel puller?

Yes, wheel has to come off to replace the spiral cable, but it does not have to come off to do the inspection. I never use a wheel puller, remove the nut, wiggle the steering wheel a bit and it will come off pretty easy. I just make sure to mark it before removal of course.

    Hmm....

Wonder if I can just get the part and DIY. It's a PITA dealing with the local dealers. Last time I had one in for a recall they came up with $200 worth of repairs that needed to be done in addition to the recall before they would release the vehicle.
I was out of town and wife was freaking out.
Ya, her front brakes were low, but not low enough to warrant the dealership "impounding" the car.

That and waiting to get into a service bay will make this an all-day thing.
I'd almost rather just wait for the light to come on.
