Are you as self absorbed as I am?

When driving do you feel like everyone is watching you, green with envy over the piece of crap they're driving? Do you ever feel like you can hear people thinking in their head "Damn it, I wanted a Tacoma, why did I buy a Ford Sport Trac?" Do you fear that the stares of masses might burn a blemish into the beautiful wax job you did on your paint last week?

If so you might be as self absorbed as I am.

 

I like the fact that I'm 23 and not relied on a single penny of daddy's money (as most people assume when they see a 23 y/o in a new car) to have this truck...and then I wonder how bad the 45 y/o man in a 1988 Honda Civic must feel when I pull up next to him at a light. Yeah, I'm self absorbed at moments...but I feel I've earned it.

 

It’s a nice fantasy but in the modern world a Tacoma just blends into the woodwork. The fact is there is absolutely nothing special about our beloved Tacoma’s. A neighbor down the street drives a silver Ferrari – now that’s a standout car.

I honestly don't think I would buy a Ferrari even if I could afford one. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to get behind the wheel of one for an afternoon, but I don't think I could justify spending that kind of money. I would however upgrade to a V6 4x4.

 

I didn't get a Tacoma because I thought it was a status symbol. I bought it because I loved it. But really, what would Jeseus drive? Probably a 1988 Honda Civic.

 

I didn't get it cause it was a status symbol either. I needed 4 wheel drive and a V6. I owned a Toyota before that, loved it to death, and the consumer reports gave the 2nd gen Taco Best Buy every year since 2005 for Mid sized truck.

But now I can see heads turn while I drive. God I love my truck!

 

That post wasn't aimed at you or anyone else specifically. I love my truck too.

Oh I know, I just felt like responding. I'm stuck in the house going stir crazy...

 

Perfectly put. There are reasons why 45yo dudes drive 88 Honda Civics. One might include forgoing any luxury items until he gets his kids through college. There is certainly no reason to look down on a man for doing that. Not only is he investing in the future of his kids, he is investing in OUR future. Don't be so quick to judge. There are a lot of things that 23yo dudes hadn't quite thought of just yet. You just might find yourself "regressing" financially in order to provide a better life for those that you care for.

 

Probably because he bought it brand new and like me won't give the vehicle up till the frame breaks in half and he's forced to buy a new vehicle.

Now that is EXACTLY why I bought my Tacoma. I had 2 pre-Tacoma Toy trucks and a "real Tacoma. I then bought a Corvette coupe followed by a ZO6. The ZO6 DID attract attention and it was, by far, the most fun car I have ever owned. But then guilt and common sense came in so I scaled back to an LS2 GTO....a great car in it's own right. But the reality is I need something practical and something I will hold onto for a long long time. And that is how I arrived back at a Toyota Truck. Great Truck...great practicality....and it will still be a great truck in 7 or 10 years.

Yep, I'm 28. By the time I'm done with this truck, I'll be about due for my mid-life crisis.

 

Of course I’d didn’t mean to imply that a Tacoma is not a great truck. I drove my first Toyota truck for 20 years without a problem. When I sold it had 188,000 miles on it. But from the standpoint of envy most people don’t care about your Tacoma. Actually, other self-absorbed drivers think you should be envious of what they drive.

 

+1 to me my truck is special, because it is the only one, true we see many silver 4 door TRD 4x4's. But HA not like mine.
