The Arduino is kind of a blend of c with wire, and a java feel. It's fairly easy. I have gotten most of the " tacoduino" going. I have built a reprap printer and am working on prototyping a replacement for that stupid garage door opener compartment that will hold the Arduino and an amber LCD.

Thanks I have been checking out all the different add-ons off of eBay and other sites, it's almost overwhelming what you can do with it!

For 39.95 you can get the Ruggeduino that has been designed to be damn near bullet proof. Hard to destroy it by making connection errors - like putting 12v on the 5v input, or shorting the input pins to voltage line...

Great for "trying" stuff when you aren't positive on how things should be connected. Same connectors and processor just added protections. I can attest to errors that would have fried a regular Arduino Uno. Well worth the extrra $10 IMHO.

I was just looking to see if anyone had played with setting up arduino with a LCD TFT Touch Screen to control relays on a timer.

My boss was telling me how his BMW has a timer so the heated seats and defrosters can be set on a timer so they turn on automatically 15 minutes before he normally leaves for work.

I was also considering adding a relay and switch with a piezo buzzer to go off when I turn off the truck but my anytime fog lights are still on.

I'm also thinking that you could set a temp limit on it too so it only turns the heated seats on when its below a certain temp.

arduinos are tremendously fun and very useful for introduction to microcontrollers and electronics in general.

    3 things for contemplation.

    shift registers.
    leds.
    tach/speedo monitoring.

It's also quite easy to use the platform as a very nice GPS powered speedometer using the OE gauges if you've changed tires/gearing... :D

The seat heating would be ridiculously easy to implement with a simple timer...

AND, if you're not faint of heart, pulling apart that expensive LED bar that you have could yield some interesting patterns that you could create ;)

WAAAAAY overkill to use a MCU. The door switch should be a NC so wire that to a transistor with the piezo powered by the fogs and you're set.

Yeah, that was just a random neuron firing off unrelated to an Arduino project.

Im still new to it but do you know if there is a way to make a OBDII interface with the adruino??? that could open up all sorts for doors who want to make their own scan guage/ultra gauge.

Not knowing what language the OBDII works its just a question/shot in the dark.

yes they do make a OBD Arduino kits
    http://arduinodev.com/hardware/#logger_kits
    found this one today: http://obduino.ca/
    and http://www.mp3car.com/engine-manage...agnostics-etc/155067-hacking-the-can-bus.html

I just got an Arduino for xmas and making my own GPS enabled data logging OBD is something I'd like to do in the future

Maybe the lights should be on the relay that turns off the lights when you open the door.

    ^have fun =)

Simple voltage monitoring says don't heat if battery is below XX.XXv ;)

Then no fun lights unless the door is closed! The same way my headlights go off whenever I open my doors, which infuriates me when I'm trying to jump someones car

If you know what you're looking at, it's very simple =)

I have a few PDFs of Arduino books that break it down quite nicely.

I am so interested in this. I would love to be able to program my accessory circuit to stay on until the doors open, and also have the power windows work until the doors open. building in timers for heated mirrors and maybe rfid for unlocking the doors.
