Unless you enjoy grinding, painting, sand blasting over and over this is the only way:

    http://www.fluid-film.com/

I live in Manitoba Canada, last winter I saw a salt truck everyday. This stuff pretty much makes a mess of your vehicle but it works wonders. Prevents new vehicles from rusting and slows down already rusted vehicles to a snails pace.

ps POR-15 does not work. Seen this stuff perform over the years working in the auto body trade.

it's only surface rust, get use to it, it's a Toyota. Unless you want to do what Johnny2 said. I would not worry about it unless you see it on a painted body surface, then take action.

there are some decent rust inhibitors/preventers/encapsulators out there, including por15. I might spray my new 2012 truck right after I bring it home.

I imagine significant box frame damage starts from the inside the box frame. Grime gets trapped inside. Does anyone routinely flush frame out and verify low point drains exist/function?

Wish Toyota used a better anti-corrosion system on frame. I'd pay an extra grand for a galvanized frame on a new Taco because I wan't to keep it for many years.

I am curious if they dip the frame like some other companies do? One company goes as far as dipping and rotating submerged frame in anti-corrosion bath.
I'd really like to know what anti-corrosion steps Toyota takes.

You got some sort of warranty I don't know about? As far as I've ever seen for rust warranty, it only ever covers "rust perforation from the inside out, due to a material defect" Does not cover rust caused by environmental, dirt, salt, stone chips, scratches etc.

yeah I think he has the bumper to bumper warranty!

Seriously though I would try to take it back to the dealer and complain about the cheap bumpers on these trucks, trust me I could get a new one.....

I crawled under my truck after its first winter, and keep in mind I washed it religiously to keep the salt off, and I was disgusted.

Dangit. So y'all made me crawl under my truck. Took pics from the same angle so I can see what I'm looking at.

Are you treating it with anything else before you apply the bedliner? Is it rusting in the same spots?

I'm in Cali and I don't have the weather conditions you do but I do travel to Tahoe every year. So I'm concerned where the rust is happening.

Same amount as OP here. 2005, bought in Seattle.

The inside of the rear chrome bumper was particulary bad. I got the whole thing powder coated in part to stop the rust. I would highly suggest getting that done if your bumper is rusty. Even sanding it down and hitting it with ethcing primer would be a good start.

    FYI

I had a rear axle seal leaking on my 05, and oh boy, what did I find! Took axle apart to replace seal and found rust between mating surfaces and past the oring seal. Thankfully, no water in diff. fluid.
Long story short. Cleaned up the corrosion the best I could. One stepped mating surfaces (rust converter/primer) painted, and sealed the shit out of it. Cleaned up the exterior the best I could and sealed the exterior with silicone. Will be checking up on this area every spring. Salt sucks!
