Wheel bearing/Hub assembly fix?

Good evening gents, have a question you all may be able to help me with.

To start off, I have a bad wheel bearing on the front passenger side. Now, I said screw repacking, and went out and bought a whole new wheel bearing/ hub assembly (pics of item below). Now, the guys at the auto hobby shop here on base said that I have to get to a press and all of this other stuff. NOW...I was under he impression that with the who new assembly, it was easy as unbolting and removing the old one and replacing it with the new one. Wham, bam, thank ya ma'am! Any inputs? Really starting o doubt some of them considering the way they've been leading folks astray lately. Thanks ya'll!

 

Sadly they're correct, you'll have to press in the rest of the pieces.

In that picture, it seemed pretty simple to press them together. But for some reason they said it was a 4 hour process?

 

to do all that work AND the alignment, MAYBE. if youve never done it before. the wheel bearing itself is not a 4 hour job with the rght tools.

 

Could be if you're tearing down the front end for the first time.

Just remember to use anti-sieze on everything when going back together, it'll make the next time much easier/quicker.

 

Pep boys also told me it would be a 4 hour job, but not so...with the right tools. does anyone know if the wheel bearing/hub assembly for the pre-runner 2wd has 1 or 2 tapered roller bearings within it?

New wheel bearings come with almost no grease. I repacked mine before installing and I suggest doing the same unless you want to do this again soon.

 

I think prerunner assembly is exactly like one for 4wd. Whats different is the WheelHub (where the 6 wheel studs sit) and how it holds the bearings together since it uses adjustment nut instead of CV (4wd) So it should have two tappered rolled bearings in it. look closesly because it would be very suprising there is only one. When you buy i nthe store plastic plug holds two of them together, once you remove plastic you should be able to split them to see two.

Oh i see, thats what i thought. i took the hub assembly in question to the pep boys shop in order to have it pressed into the hub and thats how i found out that the new bearing assembly was missing a tappered bearing. the auto part store (O'reilleys) however claims that that assembly is supposed to only have one bearing. Thanks for the help! Now i have a better idea and can have them replace it or else. Unfortunately Pep boys didnt recognize that there was a missing tappered bearing on the new one until they had already cut through the original, essentially leaving me without my truck until i get a replacement. in either case thanks!
