2012 Tacoma 4WD Dial Question

I just bought a new 2012 Tacoma Access Cab. Last night I was driving and noticed the 4WD Dial wasn't illuminated. Also the buttons on the Rear View Mirror for the garage door opener, etc aren't lit up either. Is this normal? Thanks

 

Don't know about the 2012 but my 07 4WD dial doesn't illuminate. There is a mod you can do to have it illuminate.

Toyota doesn't want you to go wheeling in the dark. ;-)

IMO, they've just cheaped out on some interior lighting features. My 07 is the same. Not worth it for me to do the mod. But it would've been nice to have. I guess they traded that feature for the dual indicators for gear selection, on the automatics that is. Go figure.
