2012 Tacoma MPG

So i wondered if anything like the bully dog or any other vehicle tunner actually helped with gas mileage im getting around 18 or 19 combined MPG with gas being almost $4 anything will help

 

I think the consensus was no.

I did get the ultra guage and that helps bcause it give instantaneous MPGs. Helped refine my driving habits. Improved my MPG 1-2 miles per gallon.

 

1100 miles right now... 16 or so mpg average... oh well, I didnt buy her for the fuel economy.

 

No chips, air intakes etc are going to help you with mpg. If you're so worried about it, let off the gas pedal. Or go and buy a Prius. As you read throughout this website you're going to get the same consensus.

 

3400 miles here and I got 19.8mpg last week.....hope to keep getting better with more miles on the taco

 

Weird... I usually get 19-21 MPG in my 2012... What do you have on your truck? DBLCab or no? Mostly city driving?

 

5 fill ups with a total of 84.67 gallons. I drove 1656.2 miles. That's 19.56 mpg. I keep a light foot . . . Most of the time.

 

is it true that those that have a lift, or big wheel/tire upgrades, probably will run anywhere from 1-5 mpg less than oem setups?
My son put a big set of wheels on his ram and he swears his mpgs dropped from 15 to 12.
Seems pretty reasonable to assume the extra drag and tire weight, not to mention taller tires might cost you some fuel. I guess the designers set up the drivetrain and drive ratios to optimize mpgs with the oem tires, so if you stray far from them youre going to be buying more gas.

Bigger tires mean heavier tires, and taller tires change the final gear ratio on the truck.

Basically, more effort required to get them spinning, more effort required to keep them spinning, and more effort required to slow them down (so don't be surprised if he needs new brakes early).

 

Got 20.5 mpg and 21 mpg, combination of city and hwy. Truck is 2012 DC PreRunner, with 4.0 with 2200 miles.

 

Plus you lift, you drive more air under the truck and it's not exactly aerodynamic under there.

 

Im getting 18.5 in Salt Lake City. I use cruise control and try to keep the RPMs below 2k if possible. I have 4x4 automatic double cab long bed.

 

I get 17-18 city, 21-23 highway if I go under 65mph. 3500 miles.

 

R/C 4x4. 1200 miles, getting 20 mpg!

 

I am getting about 18.5 mpg. On a recent 800 miles trip on the highway, I was getting almost 23 mpg .


Would you guys complain to the dealership of the scratches on the shift knob? I think its too late since I bought the truck almost a month ago. Had the scratches since day one. It didn't bother me then but starting too...

 

Meh, if I had a good relationship with the dealer (I had a good one in AZ) then I might talk to them about it. If not I would let it fester until it bugged me so much that I just bought a new knob.

 

My 2012 fuel economy is too good even after upsizing my tires a little bit so I'm adding a Supercharger so I can burn more fuel

 

My 07 MT 2.7 got about 21, my 12 AT 4.0 gets about 16.5.....pretty expected, no mods, etc.

 

LOL yeah cause gas is so cheap right? Some people may need a truck for work, or maybe it's just preference. Either way, I don't see some peoples problems with them wanting to get better mileage out of them. Yet everytime the topic comes up you got forum members posting "Get a Prius" or "It's a truck". It ain't about that....petrol is expensive. If you aren't scrutinizing it or ways to improve your efficiency, you either got way too much money or need to wake up. Just my $.02.

Back on topic: I'm getting 16mpg with 1200 mi on the clock/275/65-18's, and I'm definitely looking for ways to improve that.
