So I was by the dealer today to complain about my shitty plastic sport rims. I was cleaning the truck today and it looked like the chrome was delaminating. They had one of there detail guys clean them. I guess he had some magic glove that made them come out brand new looking. So I guess they are ok. It just so happens that the first guy I ran into on the lot was the used car manager. We got to talking and it ends up he has a set of rims on a Tacoma and a set on a FJ that he is willing to trade straight across with me.

Mine are the new 2012 sport chrome clad 18" wheels with the crappy duelers that are at less then half thread after 4,500 miles. P265/60R18

The set on the Tacoma are the 16" off road wheel from about 2010. They have basically brand new blizzac's on them. The wheels them selves are a little beat. Some scratches and it looks like some clear coat on the bead is peeling. These have been off roaded. 265/70R16

The other set is on a FJ they are also 16"'s and look to be in very good condition. A little flashy but much better condition than the other ones. However the tires are beat. I would need to get new tires with these asap. These have never been the dirt. 265/75R16

So here is my dilemma. Are my tire/rim worth the trade for these? I remember someone saying they sold 4 wheel/tire without TPMS for $800. I really would rather have 16" wheels just for the fact that tires are a lot cheaper. $50-70 per tire. The deal would be a straight swap for tire/wheel and the TPMS sensors will stay if they are compatible.

I was thinking of asking him for the 5 wheel/rim from the FJ that way I would have a spare of the same size so I do not have to buy one.

Also he said he gets about 15 of these Tacomas in every month. Is there a better rim I should wait for and/or have him look for?

Here are the photo's. First one are mine. Second are the off road. Third are the FJ.

    Thanks

Yeah those 18s with the fake chrome makes the truck look cheap. Personally none of the options sound good, I'd wait a little longer and see what comes in. Dealers get all kinds of parts and exchanges on sets of wheels from other customers.

I traded for some FJ's and the fit was good. Ride was nice.

Ive seen FJ wheels on the tacoma many times. I personally dont like the options you have and would wait a little to see if you can get something else.

    Jump on the FJ wheels..

but I don't think you can go wrong with the Tacoma wheels either.. and 16" wheel are nicer in my mind for the reasons you already mentioned..

You can always get them powder coated if you would like another colour as well..

    Just my 2 cents

Wheels are a matter of taste, cannot answer that one for you. Value is in the eye of the beholder too - some people are killing to get the chrome-clad wheels, others hate them. But don't let anyone cheat you out of your wheels, they are not cheap. Chrome-clad wheels can now also be found on Mercedes and Audi vehicles because they are much more durable than other chrome wheels.
