Boss Lady Spoke!! Need Advise

Hereis my dilemma I have in front of me. The wife says after driving my sons truck(2008 TRD Sport DBLB 4x4 with OME lift with wheels and tires) that she likesthe feeling of sitting up higher than usual and people complimenting on thevehicle. She tells me that I can go trade it in for a 4x4 and do the same tothe truck and build it how I want it. The dilemma is that we have a 2010 DBSBTRD Off Road and will be paid off within the year. Should I go trade ourcurrent truck for a 4x4 or should I keep the Off Road and fix that one up. Iuse the truck for hunting, going camping, hauling trailers with atvs, zeroturn, but maybe see some muddy trails two or three times a years. What wouldyou do? Any suggestions or recommendation will be greatly appreciated. Also if Iwas to trade it in, I would have to make sure the Wet Okole seats cover I orderfrom the group buy will fit the new truck.

I'd say fix yours up, absolutely. These are among the best 4x4's on the planet for all the things you described. Not too many other trucks have made it to the north pole. No reason to start making payments on something else when you've already got the best in your garage. Well done sir for paying her off so quickly btw. Just curious what you mean when you say 4x4, and why you don't think your tacomas counts in that category?

Edit, yours isn't 4 wheel drive...ahhhh it all makes sense now. I'd have to go with the above question, but if you're going off road and doing some trails, it does seem like you'd benefit from 4 wheel drive. Even towing I find it helpful. But I live in AK.

 

x2... No sense buying a new truck with a 4wd system that will never get used. If your prerunner gets you where you need to go, then build the prerunner. It'll be a lot cheaper and you have the option of using spindle lifts with the prerunner.

If your truck works fine for what you do already, you don't need a 4x4. You can use the money you save to buy better and more mods for your truck.

 

I say save your money and purchase a nice font size augmenter.

But seriously, sounds like you should skip the 4x4 with no snow and very few occasions to "need" it.

 

If I were in your position, I'd just keep the truck you have. I myself went to look for a new 2012 with the OR option but considering the price difference, my salesman actually told me to think again since mine was paid off.

I agree that he was right. I didn't want to fork out more money right now considering the money to be spent was not worth the difference for my needs at the moment - it's a WANT not a NEED. I'd probably have to come up with about 13k and considering my truck has 7,500 miles on it, it just wasn't time to do it.

 

yeah i wouldnt pay 13k for the offroad option..



why dont you just put a locker in and gear at the same time? if you pay retail you can get a rear locker and gears front and rear for under 2 grand.
you already have an awesome truck

 

I'd go for the 4x4. I've gotten stuck in mud a few times and I sometimes kick myself in the ass for not getting a 4x4. That is if you go off the beaten path a lot.

 

You guys are rich! I aint poor but man-trading a 2 year old truck? To me it's still new! I still have my 2001 because it refuses to give me a reason to let it go.
But if you are going places that really call for 4x4 you better get one.

This just about sums it up...lol. I would keep what you have and mod it up. No "need" to trade, just adjust yours to your needs.

OP if you're truck has been good thus far you'll continue to be good man. I'd want 4x4 for sure but payed off, well that might be worth going without!

 

I think this is the best suggestion. I bought 4wd cause where I live (sometimes) we get blizzards. That and people in DC don't know how to drive in rain, let alone snow. But if you don't use the 4wd or anticipate needing it much, adding a winch would be much cheaper than trading in for a 4wd model.

Just told him that and he was not very amused, because he wanted a 6" from the beginning.
