I believe that Long Travel is "a lift" option and was asking a question about "a lift" and some people use LT esp. on front ends to get more clearance offroad (not just pre-running/jumping)

Just about the time you get high enough to never hit the bottom, you'll have a rollover. Learning how to drive is the way to protect the truck, not armoring and smashing. For one thing, these trucks need much lower gears if you are looking at technical wheeling.

Since the control arms are longer I believe you can get a lift and still have more down travel than stock. Anyways I'm out.

It does if you have room for 37's... mine still sits about the same height as a stock truck.

Agreed. However, in these vehicles armoring is also extremely essential. They're just long, there's no way around it. I like the long wheelbase though...makes those rollovers harder :D

I really don't see any benefit to increasing ride height more than 4" if you actually wheel the truck.

bah, it just takes a sawzall, a sledge, and a six pack of your favorite brew, oh and the tires are down to $74.95 now-http://www.trailworthyfab.com/Goodyear-Tire-Radial-37x12.50R16.5-Take-Off-s.html
You should smell it. It's been underwater so many times it has a lingering wet dog smell mixed with the essence of swamp mud and decomposing corpses. Haggard is an understatement.

fitting 37s on a 1st gen like mine would be like fitting 39s on yours..... i would have to take out the whole firewall to even drive straight. 1 piece clip would be in need.

    febreezeeeee!!

Yea, I agree. I have armor. :D My comment was prompted by a percieved attitude that you can armor your way to security. Armor in my book is for the rare times you miscalculate, or slide, or otherwise have shit go wrong. I rarely hit anything on my truck, and when I do it's a usually a tap. I like a longer wheel base too, maybe not quite as long as a taco, but you couldn't pay me to wheel a jeep. I spent a lot of time in early Broncos and liked them. Bobbing the back would sure help, and I may someday.

    Broncos are cool.

I wouldn't bob the taco...just get a high-clearance ass on it and you're set. If that overhang is holding you back from anything at that point, you probably shouldn't be messing with it in the first place.

I'm going with as little lift as I can. Im getting adjustable fox cool overs for tr front so I can fine tune the suspension height, so I ride high enough to have exceptional ground clearance.

Just my 2 cent's but being in the north, I wouldnt go with Fox as they will rust or corrode prematurely with all the road treating in winter, so ive read on this forum. I got Icons for a couple weeks now and the ride is perfect in my opinion. As for the tsb, it was good for a yr or so, I put a 3pk aal in to hold me over a couple yrs. The tsb pk was flat if not a little, frowned in a yr. I'm very pleased and i'm with you as far as not going big. 2" with a nice ride with some serious capability if needed. It's there. Good luck

It'll be either fox or walker Evans. I'll coat them in something to reduce rust as much as possible.

I agree, I think tires are a better initial investment value. It's my first planned 'big' upgrade. Now I just have to save the money....

I have Fox 2.5s in the front and they have been excellent. IMO the spring rate and valving is spot on.

I'm one of the fortunate Tacoma owners who doesn't want or need a lift.

I have the rear TSB leafs...and front & rear 5100's that will go on some day (front at .85 to level from the TSB)

however, my stock Dunlap's are looking tired at 22K miles...I want new rubber all around...soon enough I'll need new rubber.

At this place in life, I keep it all simple.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
If you are not doing any hardcore wheeling there is no need, it will amaze you what a stock 4x4 can do. My old 78 Bronco is stock and can go places the big lifted up trucks cannot! Only mod I can recommend would be sliders, just in case.
