Getting the black from the rear view mirror off.

Like the title says, I need to get the black backing from the windshield around the rear view mirror off. I relocated my mirror to my dash and don't want the black spot. Thank you, Frank.

 

What black backing?

 

Just spit-balling, but I'd say try a razor blade?

May I ask why you relocated your mirror to the dash? I've
never heard of anyone doing that before....

 

I mounted it on the dash to element the blind spot the mirror created. I've tried a razor blade. I mounted it above the radio kind of like an old roadster. I can see fine, I'll post an update later on.

 

I think that might be a baked on ceramic material. If so I think you're going to have to polish it off with an abrasive.

 

I'm ignorant off abrasive polishing. what do I use and how do I go about it?

I know that some people will think it is weird, but I can see through the windshield and I have a good view through the rear glass. I don't know if it would work in a double cab.

That is cool. Props for being creative and making it work for your needs. But I think you're right about not working in a double cab

 

Instead of going through the hassle, you could have just waited for ImMrYo's next batch of rear view mirror relocate brackets to come in.

Now that's a great idea. I may just look into that bracket to raise the mirror. Didn't realize how much difference it made to move the mirror up til I saw these pictures.

 

You moved your rear view mirror down to your dash? Uh...OK.

OP, your truck, your rules... but are you sure your state vehicle inspection code allows for this? I think you will find the mirror relocated to that location will be ineffective and hardly worth reducing the blind spot you experienced in the first place.

 

It definitely makes a huge difference. Start bugging ImMrYo to have some more made up.
