Wal-mart over sprayed their rust protection on plastics including a rear mud flap. I haven't been able to get it off when I wash the truck...I've tried a few things but no luck. Yesterday I I had a bright idea to try brake cleaner. And it worked like a charm but also started to dissolve the white 4x4 on the flap. Some white is gone, some is still left. Plan A is to find a way to re-white it (for lack of a better term). Plan B is to just remove all the white with the brake cleaner.

Is there a way to re-white the characters?

go complain to walmart for screwing up your truck, and get them to order you a new set.

then once you have the new set, get rid of the rest of the white, and sell the new flaps on ebay :)

Satoshi, debadged, rear view mirror bracket, tail gate hose clamps, trimmed mud flaps.

    ^^This.

Lesson learned. I doubt Walmart will replace them.

Just take your time, tape off the letters and repaint them with 5-6 coats of satin white if it bugs you. Did it with my 2000 and you could not tell it wasn't factory.

P.S. Never use Wal-Mart for anything related to your vehicle--not even for batteries. Minimum-wage, untrained dolts touching my truck? Never. Might as well give a class of pre-schoolers hand tools and let them go to town.

Wal mart does rust protection? I accidentally used westlys bleach white on my flaps and it took some of the white off.

Why would Walmart replace them? They didnt use brake cleaner on them removing the "4x4".

If anything you should have gone back and asked them to clean the overspray, because that was indeed their fault. If they took the "4x4" off while cleaning then they would be responsible for replacing the flaps.

I would repaint them as mentioned earlier. Wouldn't be too tough and the backside of the flap wouldnt normally see much wear so the paint should hold up okay.

I had it done years ago on my old f150 and I was very pleased. I later went with Krown on my Tacoma and I found that stuff much better

I can't believe this stirred such a debate.

Anyway, I went to Walmart because I've seen the coating they use on other vehicles and it looked really good. I had the truck done December 2010 and didn't notice the overspray until that following summer when I washed the truck for the first time. I figured it was too late then to do anything about it. It was 6+ months later.

I wasn't sure if regular spray paint would work but no harm I guess.

I would just Paint'em back on then.

How's the rust proof holding up? Do they warranty it? And last ? how much was it?

I cut some wires here. Added some wires there.
Not that I give a shit about defending Walmart, but what makes a mechanic at Walmart any more likely to be under qualified as whoever is working any place else? Where would a random Walmart mechanic rank angainst, say, a random Sears mechanic? Which mechanic has more expierence, you know, based on where they work and all?

You can usually find a cheap set in the "for sale" section, but As stated above, Walmart shouldn't have to replace them since they're not the ones who sprayed brake cleaner on them.
