    Hey everyone,

I was driving my tacoma today no problems. I drove home however and parked the truck normal. Get back in the truck and the gear shifter will not come out of park. Eventually I am able to get it out of park by literally banging it to the right so that i could drop it into R and other gears. I drove around a while and then parked it again, same trouble removing the truck from park.

    Any ideas????????

There is usually a "park release" fuse of sorts. I blew one in my sisters car once upon a time by grounding out the license plate.... dont ask, that car was ghey

Most likely the brake switch above the brake pedal.

Do you set your parking brake? Set parking brake then put transmission into park. You may have a crappy connection somewhere or faulty brake switch. When you press your brake pedal, you should be able I hear the shift interlock disengage. Are your brake lights working well?

Get a new brake switch, they are usually very inexpensive. You can also take yours out and check it to see if it is moving freely. It's the usual cause for this. The switch fails so the truck doesn't know you're pushing in the brake pedal to shift

Thanks for the quick response, aewsome site/members.

Im on flat land. i will check the fuses, which location would a brake fuse be in. Not sure if my lights are working, but i assume they are. Regarding the brake switch, where do i find that/check it?
