what is involved in replacing the airbag?

Some may know that my driver side airbag deployed on me this past weekend and my seat belt is locked. I have confirmed that the seat belt is locked because a charge goes off locking the seat belt in place. That I have to completely replace. As far as the airbag goes, I bought a new airbag, cover and clock spring off ebay for $187 shipped. Toyota wanted like $600.

Do the sensors in the front need to be reset or replaced? Just trying to figure out what needs to happen so when I do take it in somewhere I dont get the wool pulled over my eyes

 

I haven't done a Toy but with GM, Ford and Hyundai you need to do the sensors and the airbag control module (also called an SDM).

Usually with the seat belt you'll have to replace the female (buckle) side too. They contain what's called a pretensioner. It fires and draws the belt tight as the retractor side fires to lock the belt.

what do you mean "do" the sensors? Reset or replace?

Not to worry, I dont trust myself enough to replace the airbag myself. Chances are I'll have toyota do it..kinda want it done right

Wiring harness may need to be replaced, too. Often the airbag-end of the harness is fried from heat during deployment.
