New tires and rims...need advise!

Hey all...a newbie here...

I have a 2012 4 door, short bed, Tacoma TRD 4x4. Stock tires are 265/75 R16 (~31"x 9.5). I want to increase the size of my meats and replace the rims with something black. I was considering a 285/75 R16 (~32.8" x 11.4) or 33"x12.50 R15. Sitting these new tires up next to the stock tires on the truck, the new tires look huge. NTB and Firestone seem to think a 15" rim wont fit on the new TRD because they will rub the brake rotor and/or drums.

Stock, the truck sits approximately 2" lower in the front than the rear. My Toyota dealer told me that SkyJacker sells a 3" longer front strut that uses the OEM spring to raise the front 3" with a 1" rear axle block to level the truck and give me a small lift without affecting ride or handling, and seems to think it would accomodate ~33" without a problem.

All that being said, has anyone gone as large as a 285/75 or 33x12.50? This truck is going to be used 90/10 onroad vs off, but want a meaner, wider stance, but dont want spacers or these wimpy BF Goodrich AT's.

Then comes in the whole question of what backspace/offset do I need to run something this size.

1. DO NOT USE BLOCKS IN THE BACK! very bad. and they ride like shit! get a add a leave or something. and also you are going to need 3” of lift to fit that tire. and 15” rims will not fit on 2nd gen TRD’S OR SR5 that have the 6 lugs.

 

Ok, duely noted...so does anyone have a recommendation of what lift to go with. What application is best? Not wanting to break the bank, but looking for advise to lift CORECTLY and increase the tire size without overly affecting the current ride. If the tires are to large, what would everyone recommend. Rim size is still open...so ALL recommendations are welcome! This is my DD, my only vehicle and plan to keep it long term. Doing this right is 1st priority.

I saw a thread about complaing to Toyota Corp about a bottoming out issue with the 3 leaf set up and the expected replacement of the 4 leaf. Is this a valid replacement from Toyota?

 

Get some bilstein 5100's for the front and set them at 2.5 and have the tsb done.I also added an add a leaf on that so i could still have some rake. Total of 5 leafs. You can fit 285's with 2.5'' lift but you have trim a lil' bit. Definately get a 16'' wheel with 4.5'' backspacing if you can.

 

i agree. 16” maybe 17” if you can’t find what you like in a 16” i would not go bigger than 17” unless you have 6” lift. IMHO. at least with off road tires.

 

Either of you guys think a 33-11.50 -16 will work on a 2011 dcsb with the billies set at 1.75 and the tsb?

 

5100's to level out 5100's 884 coils and an add a leaf (if your not planning on running a plate bumper or anything heavy on the front) for a 3" and 285 fit fine. 15" wheels are too small and will rub

 

Your referring to the factory coil on a TRD as an 884?
