ok, i've read thru this whole thread and i have a question to make sure i fully understand. i bought some gl2 spec synthetic grease(valvoline synthetic) and it says moly fortified. is moly lube and moly fortified two different things or is it the same thing? cuz if its the same thing i'll be returning this grease to find one thats not moly fortified.

I used the Mobil 1 Synthetic grease. The Valvoline should be exactly the same. It will work.

    Here are a few pics.

Note the grease spray on the under side of the cab.

This u-joint required 3 pumps of grease. You can see from the grease marks that a lot of the grease has sprayed out and it is in need of grease.

nice pics, they make it real clear to see. when i go do this, i may as well grease the whole truck. i know a lot of newer vechicles(at least their replacement parts) they are internally greased, they have no grease fittings. how many grease fittings are on the truck total? mine is a reg cab by the way.

These are great pictures of what happens when you use Mobile 1 synthetic grease. You'd be much better off using the Co-op Moly guard or any grease that has Moly in it to get away from the grease spray, and it'll stay in your joints much longer.

Moly grease flings off just as bad, if not worse, than the Mobil 1.

If you wanna believe that or the pictures its up to you. I use Co-op Moly Gueard on mine and have no where near the grease spray as these lithium mobile 1 grease pictures.

Ya right , we are all stupid and just keep pumping grese into them zerks until its dripping on the ground. Come on, the synthetic grease doesn't work as well and the pictures prove it. Some people will tell you anything but look at the pictures. If you want that on the underside of your truck go ahead and pump Mobile 1 synthetic 1 into them.

Take it easy, Dude. Im not calling anyone stupid. If you dont like it, Dont use it.. I have used about every grease I can think of, and I have never had any issues with the Mobil 1. Everything else I have used in the past has flung out just as bad. Now, Do something to get your heart rate down...

I love it when people respond and its called overeaction. Politicians do this until they are called on the carpet then its you are overeacting. Like you should try the Moly guard instead of pushing Mobile 1 synthetic grease. When you do and post some pictures of it then you might keep people from responding.

Ok but dont leave me lubed up like that, Hahahah. Chris it appears somewhat like we were having a excess lube problem. I think no matter what grease you use you do need to get some in them joints. Even if it means pumping more than needed. But please clean up the excess so you dont leave a mess.

Those pics were taken while I was adding the Mobil 1 Synthetic. This is the first time I have greased the drive shaft. The grease that has sprayed on the underside of the cab was the stock grease. I put 1 pump into the rear 2 fittings, and 3 pumps into the front. Obviously the stock grease had been leaking out of the front u-joint for some time.

I use Lucas Red and Tacky #2, good high temp, high pressure grease. I run heavy equipment and am constantly greasing stuff. Its better to over grease than under grease, especially in a dusty or wet environment

I had a tube of the coastal lube in my grease gun and did all the zerk fittings.(OVER DID IT) Had grease all over the place, so I degreased the areas with a STRONG solution of "PURPLE CLEANER" and it actually broke the paint down a bit, the original paint was dull and pale compared to the areas I didnt clean, so I hit it with some krylon paint, then I thought, grease overspray really doesnt hurt anything, other than cosmetic reasons, the grease actually is a defacto rust preventative, right? I'm not saying lube up your chasis with grease but undercoating is made out of a petrolium base, right? SO don't do what I did, just wipe it off and call the rest rust preventative. BTW, I have since switched to mobil one synthetic red grease. No difference in excess over spray out of the joints, I think a good thing to remember is just grease the fittings and clean up the excess. I think the only true way to see any u-joint wear is to press them out, and the only reason you would do that is if you had a failure, atleast they are not like the u-joints I had on mt 1974 Datsun 260 Z, they were staked in and not a serviceable part, once they broke then tou had to find a new drive shaft, that happened to me. In closing, just grease them with something you like, your truck will reward you for the preventative measures.

I looked through all the postings here and didn't see a clear answer to this question: if you add grease at the middle fitting on the rear drive shaft, does some of this get through to the slip joint? In other words, is there a grease passage from that middle U-joint to the slip joint, or does one HAVE to disassemble the shaft as described in post number 6? I've got that irritating thud or clunk when I come to a full stop and/or when releasing the brakes. Sounds like lubing the slip joint is the fix.

    Thanks for any guidance.
