I just completed mine. I ended up going to the left side of the truck where all the wires run for the 2013 and I tapped into the left back door wires (same colors as the ones you said).

    Got mods?
I felt the same way. I used a Dremel to hollow out the clip to provide just enough room for both wires. Just make sure you don't hit the connect points on the clip that hold it together. It looks a little haggard, but I'm happy with the result!

Winch, front hitch, step bars, bed extender, bed step, gull-wing toolbox, tailgate lock, security system, cb radio, etc.
Inside the tailgate, remove the split plastic sheathing over the wires for the tailgate lock and feed those new wires inside the split sheathing used for the existing wires (camera, etc). There's plenty of room inside that sheathing for additional wires, with that sheathing then fed back through the plugs without any modifications whatsoever.

Once you get the wires under the truck, plug into the other wiring section provided with the tailgate lock and use the plastic sheathing provided with that for the rest of the run forward.

OmegaQuest, I'm planning on tapping on the door behind the driver's side like you. How did your wire enter the cabin?

Do I need tools to remove the kick panels?

The kick panels all just pop off and there are a LOT of those little black rubber stoppers that into go various areas of the cabin. Just pick the closest one.

Nice write up OP. I just ordered one for my truck and will install it next week when it arrives. Thanks to the other guys with 2013 Tacomas that already tried this and confirmed it works with '13's since Amazon says it doesn't. Can't wait to get this installed.

Good point, If it fails in the locked position! I wonder if anyone has an answer.

Like most locks, the Pop & Lock isn't designed to be entirely theft-proof - just provide a delay sufficient enough to be a deterrence.

Take a good look at the plastic panel over the tailgate. With the tailgate closed, there's still ample room to remove enough screws to pull the plastic panel open enough to squeeze a hand through and unlock the tailgate lock.

The only thing on the Pop & Lock holding the tailgate handle closed is a metal bar moved by an electromagnet. There's not much that can go wrong with an electromagnet, but, if it ever does stop working (loss of power due to a wiring problem or whatever), that electromagnet will offer little resistance to moving the metal bar by hand.

It's easy to wire up. Written instructions just make it seem harder than it really is.

STEWARTZ, good point, thanks for the info. Also here is a video on youtube
showing the install but it's for the drivers door, no big deal just go to the passenger door instead.

I got mine on Amazon and it looked a little different than the one on the site and the one in the OP. The metal was a silver color and not gold and the wires were not the same color. Still works just fine though.
