I slid off into muddy ditches a couple of times with my '87 4v4 Toyota pickup (no special tires) and got out by putting on my tire chains.

However, enough mud can stick anything; I've seen pretty much everything in the Army inventory, including tank recovery vehicles, stuck in mud. I don't believe I ever saw a gamma goat stuck though -- they tended to float on top of and sort of swam through deep mud.

I agree with the people who mentioned dry rot and Rugged Trails. I looked at mine the other day, and while they still have a fair amount of tread, the rubber is cracked between the treads. Guess I'll be looking around for new tires sometime soon too.

That wasn't a trail and it wasn't rugged.

I'm made the climb in my signature with rugged trails many times. Dry surface they aren't bad. The sidewalls are very soft though, you have to be careful. They wear down quickly too.

Today was my first day offroading with bfg at's. Absolute world of difference. Everything everyone here is saying is true. They served me well for their short life (20,000 miles), but when the time comes to up upgrade, upgrade.

I have to agree the BFG rugged trails are garbage. 27000 mile I am down to the wear indicator and a lot of dry rot. At the moment I need some UCA because my alignment is not a 100 percent after the lift, so till then I an going to keep these POS tire on until I get the alignment straighten out.

I'm new to going off road, and only tried with the stock Duelers until I bought my BFG a/ts and they are beasts for what I did. Almost made it boring they whipped through it so easy

Man all ATRAC is goign to do is keep you stuck. (which probably did) You can not get enough wheel spin to clean tires.

BFG's definition of 'rugged trail' for these tires is the concrete with lines in it to channel away water.

The Hankook Dynapro ATM work great in mud, snow, sand and are quiet on the highway... I am very impressed with this all terrain tire I read about here on TW. I got rid of my Rugged Fails at 20,000 miles (after 2 flat tires, too).

If you want a mud/ off road tire, and road noise isn't a problem... On my '05 Tacoma I got rid of the Rugged Trails at 8,000 miles and bought Cooper Discoverer STTs. They were great in mud, but terrible in sand and noisy as hell.

The Hankook MT tire rated the highest of mud tires in a big test done by the off road magazines about 1-2 years ago.

It's designed to be a street tire with moderate unpaved/light snow traction ..... It's not really sold by bfg as much more than that. They have an all-terrain, mud-terrain and baja levels above that tire.
I dot know why people are so shocked when they take the rugged terrains mud wapping

That vehicles are mostly driven on roads. And they are.

If you want to get into the shit, get the right equipment.

I agree, with David here. Teh Derpypros are an awesome tire! The do awesome in mud too for being an AT tire. They're a bit pricey if you get the 10ply like I did, but after getting flat with those damn BFG rugged fails, you never wanna get another flat in the mud, cold cursing cuz you went dicking around by yourself.....
    ....end rant??

Same shit happened to me today, First time in the mud with these tires and every review/comment I've ever read about them is true. So thankfully I wasn't surprised!
