I don't have any 'driving aids' so I wouldn't be surprised if I never change the shoes for the life of the truck. I'd imagine the newer models with Auto LSD and ATRAC will go through brakes quicker.

I only have 30k on my 07' Tacoma 4x4 Access Cab TRD Off Road Package. I just checked the pads yesterday and they still have plenty of meat left on them.

On my 97' Tacoma Access Cab 4x4, they went metal to metal at 9k. Ticked me off too because for the first 2 oil changes, I got them for free from the dealership and they never mentioned the pads getting worn. What was weird was my drivers side brakes still had a decent amount of brake left on it but the passengers front brake wore out much quicker. I believe though that a recall came out later on of the brakes dragging or having some sort of issue which is probably what mine had but after that, the breaks typically lasted on the truck about every 20k to 25k but that was in San Diego with constant rush hour traffic on the freeway or around town, constantly hauling or towing a lot of heavy stuff and off roading the truck all of the time so I couldn't really blame the brakes for only lasting that little. With my current Tacoma, it is only driven around town. I work 3 miles from my house and use very little brake going to work. When we do get on the freeway, we have a 2 hour drive until we reach Denver or Fort Collins and we have never to no traffic at all so the brakes rarely get used on the freeway too so I imagine these brakes on this truck will last quite some time.

I had a 1995 T-100 V6 that had mostly interstate driving. The first time I changed the brake pads I had 176,000 miles on it. I changed my 2007 Corolla at 132,000 miles. I don't ride the brakes.

My last vehicle, a '97 Honda accord had 210k miles when I sold it and there was still 50% life left in the original rear shoes.

    Damn!

Not bad at all. I'll see how much life I can get out of mine. Fronts only lasted 70k. Driving in Boston traffic killed them

Well, I am replacing mine after almost 50K miles. Sadly not because they wear out but because there was so much rust in the cliper that one of the pads stuck and got grinded on one side. So I am tossing new rotors ($120 from Autozone) and new pads (Wagner thermaQuiet pads from Advance AutoParts $60) pads amazingly came with hardware kit (springs and locking tabs) I had to get new pins from Toyota dealership since my old one are rusted to sh...T.
There is tons of pad life left but since one of them is now bend out of shape I need to replace them all. Booo I hate New England  and its salty roads

Those wagner pads had been workign for me on several cars so I keep using them. I am sure Autozone pads are fine but I like Wagners since they seem to create almost no dust and do stop a car pretty well..;)

EDIT: Did my pass side in a hour + . That include new rotor, pads, retighten wheel bearing, and derust the caliper (just that was good chunk of time)

I hear ya, if it ain't broke...

The only thing I didn't like about the Autozone rotors was they don't have the threaded hole to jack the rotor off if it seizes on again. We gobbed the back of the new rotor with never seize but who knows if it'll come off in 70k miles or not.

Man I forgot to check that  They dont ? Lets hope all the antisize I put on the back lasts. Probably I am going to swap them sooner then. If not then I will drill holes and thread them. For the price of parts (under $200) for the front there is no point to keep them long anyway. I was lazy last time I should have swap them when I was doing wheelbearings but Did not want to go to store to buy them

I noticed that mine didn't have them. I was going to drill and tap them but I didn't notice til I was putting the wheels back on

Those jack holes are really nice. I hit the old rotors a few times with a rubber mallet to free them up and they didn't budge, threw a bolt in the hole and they popped off no problem. I cleaned up the hub and caked on the anti-seize so I'm sure they'll come off without too much fuss next time.

I'm running the Wearever Ceramic pads this go round. I like them so far. Good stopping power and very little dust compared to my last set of pads (Wearever Silvers - Will NEVER buy those again). Plus I think they were only $40 for the set. I got them at Advance Auto Parts.

The mountains and hilly terrain around here kill brake pads. A road I travel daily on my commute is practically a mini mountain I have to go over. Even downshifting in my 6 speed still requires decent braking on the descent. I'm sure that eats pads quicker. The previous owner of my truck lived in the N GA mountains (Blue Ridge, GA).
