Still getting to know my new 2012 Tacoma.

Noticed today that when the windshield wiper lever is pulled back for washer that the fluid is sprayed onto the windhield but the wipers dont turn on. Then have to turn on the wiper in a separate operation.

Is this the correct operation of the washer for the Tacoma, or have I found a problem already ?

    Thanks

sprayers should spray, then a second later the wipers will start. something is wrong then.

Looks like a defect, unless the base model with non-intermittent wiper stalks behave differently (assuming that's what you have).

Do your wipers do single wipes when you move the stalk up?

That is normal operation for a base model without intermittant wipers. Upgrading the wiper switch stalk to the intermittant one is easy and will give intermittant wipers and the wipers will come on automatically when washing. Cost is roughly $100 with new parts, search here, you'll find a DIY.

The wash system doesn't work as well as other vehicles I've driven. I always switch it to fast to clear the windshield or else it wipes once or twice.

Here's how it works on a base model: the windshield will be completely covered in washer fluid after two seconds, but the wipers will not come on until you switch them on.
