The fuel gauge on my 2012 is crazy.

At 50 miles from fill up it still reads over "F".
It takes 100 miles to make it to the 3/4 mark.
Half a tank is usually around 150 miles.
Three quarters gets me to 225 or so.

Why is it not consistent? I do the same type of driving throughout a tank, mostly around town, very little highway.

I am at about 1700 miles from new and I am keeping accurate track of mileage including brand and type of fuel. I have seen a best of 19.09 MPG and a worst of 14.79 MPG. I know my mileage will improve with break-in but I'm confused at how the fuel gauge operates.

    Anyone else experience this?

The over full would result from topping the vehicle off. If I dont top it off at all, it takes about 20 miles to get below F. If you really top it off, you can squeeze about another 2 gallons in there...that's why its not "linear" as you put it.

all in all its typical. If you REALLY top it off to the point it is about to overflow, you can get 225 miles on a half of a tank...thats where I am right now...

    It's a gauge... not a meter.
When the tank is full, you don't care how much gas you have... you have plenty.
As the tank gets lower, it's nice to have the more fine resolution of a faster-moving needle.

Pretty much every vehicle is like that... I find my Tacoma to be more accurate than most.

FWIW: Your low fuel light will come on when you've used about 17 gallons, so you'll still have at least 50 miles left even if you get horrible MPG.
