You '05 guys should go check your mounts.

Heres a few of the threads with more details/pics/list of uses whose frames have failed.

05 Tacoma Motor Mount (Update)
Thanks!! Gonna check tonight. I will say I'm at 76,000+ without any problems so far. Any one know of other issues for the '05?

I've got an issue with a squeaky bushing or leaf spring on the left rear. Probably just dust, it's been washed and spray lubed without affect.

The 09's

I don't know about the others, but the sales dude said my 09 had break away motor mounts....Maybe upgradeable ?
They are only supposed to break away during a nose dive off a cliff or similar accident...

All cars and trucks have these. They break in the middle...not at the frame.

oh

The salesman ( who by the way is now hard to find ) made it seem like it was a new feature....

Does every car buying experience feel the same ?

Guess I needed to do more research, but it's never enough...
My rotors pulsated right out of the box, and after an hour and a half they said they can only cut them, not replace....Removing more metal will make them dissipate heat even worse than before...and pulsate quicker...and too, why did it pulsate out of the gate ?...most likely improper wheel torque but there are more possibilities than just that...Still trying to resolve that one...good luck

Car salesman generally dont know WTF they are saying. When I bought my first Tacoma, they guy jumped into the bed, and started jumping up and down, and moveing side to side telling me to look how the "Active Electronic Suspension" works. THEN, he got under the truck and pointed out that the Proportioning valve is hooked to the computer and controls the shock dampening......It was at that time I asked him to be silent.

Hahahahahahah

That is great...
Speaks volumes of great proportions...no wonder the dealers are struggling....I just got off the phone with the dealership complaint person...She says they will make it right ( give me new rotors due to pulsation out of the box ) But I also said, I was at the dealer for an hour and a half, the car never left the ground, no one checked the rear brakes or wheel torque that I know of, just burned on down the road with it at who knows what RPM....But also I wanted a little help with the trailer harness I need due to not being able to load my lawn tractor on the back and I need to buy a trailer because of it. I'll buy the trailer, they are to discount me on the harness needed or eat it, hopefully the latter. ( after all, I traded my Disco II to them and they have it sitting on the lot and done nothing to it and marked from the 2500 they gave me to the 5999 they are selling it for...They can sure as s... eat a 96 dollar list price harness and the 1 hour labor.....Man, customer service is like a thing of the past sometimes...For 21K plus interest and taking it on the chin with the Rover, I do expect brakes not to pulsate and to be able to haul what I reiterated to the salesman 3 or 4 times during sale...So I gotta buy a trailer..I'm cool with that part..

Nice

That's a cool lookin' truck. What's that on the back, the side rails ? I have a tonneau, but every now and then I will have to remove for cargo or dogs. I was thinkin' about a " Coors Courier type setup, but am uncertain as yet. ( wooden stake rails I custom build )

Just seeing if there were any more updates as far as this being a 2.7L issue or if its just the 4.0L issue. didnt read about any breaking issues with the mount for this motor unless i missed it.

no issues with the 2.4L. If you got one I wouldnt worry about it, unless you're jumping your truck then everyone who is doing that has to worry about their motor mounts, along with other problems. So if thats what you're looking into or got then dont worry about it, you'll be fine. Also its a 05 Tacoma Double Cab Short Bed issue. Dont know if any long beds have had it or not but seems to be only 05's. The 06's motor mounts arent much better but they are a little, the 07+ are all fixed

I'm no genoius here but I dont see how adding metal and welding helped much I would think gusseting and triangulating would be better I've welded on frames in the passed and its a time consuminig proccess since frames are heat treated. We had to heet the frame to 500*F then start any welding on pick up frames on rig frames the number is higher.

Welcome to TW. Not to be a dick, but this thread in in regard to premature motor mount failure in the 2005 Tacomas. You may want to start a seperate thread on your issue or maybe try a search to see if anyone else already posted about a similar issue.

Interesting topic/thread. I have a 2005 as well and of course my motor mounts use the "weaker" design if you will. However, I can't see how this would actually be an issue with any normal use unless you are desert racing, off roading and/or jumping your vehicle on a regular basis. My pavement queen is likely never to see an issue and therefore I'm not much concern about it. Although, I'm glad someone made this a sticky so we can keep tabs on the progress/outcome of others.

You know I've heard about this a while back but I didn't think to much about it. Now after reading this I'm worried. My truck is 4 years old and I have no problems at all with my 05 Tacoma dc sb 6 speed. (knock wood). Good to know though, I'm gonna check my mounts tomorrow.
