'05 Motor Mounts Failed/Failing

I don't know how many of you guys venture over to TTORA or TN but this issue has been getting a lot of attention lately over there. To put it in short, some '05s are having issues with the motor mounts giving in at the frame due to bad welds. I hadn't seen a thread on this so I figured it should be posted. You '05 guys should go check your mounts.

Heres a few of the threads with more details/pics/list of uses whose frames have failed.

Oh, this is just great to read. I just got my '05 back from a failed front hub at 45K miles, which was luckily covered under warranty. I'll be checking this stuff out ASAP in the morning.

Is this strictly an 05' problem?

Its looks like a shitty design. I mean I'm not an engineer or anything, but there looks like a lot leverage there. Mine check out fine on 05 but I only have 25,000mi.

I have been inspecting mine from time to time (2007), and it seems on my frame where the mounts are, there is a gusset inbetween the mount and the frame. Its a much more "beeft" design than whats on the '05 frames, so it leads me to think Toyota or Dana corp (who makes the Tacoma frame) caught the problem an quietly fixed the issue.

Chris man, nail on the head.. bravo. Here's a borrowed pic of an 05 Driver's side motor mount and a pic of my 07 Driver's side motor mount. A rather noticeable and calculated difference in the design.

Most of those posts you guys read from the other forum sites (TTORA, Toyotanation, etc...) were from me. I started the list and I think that picture on this forum from the 05 may be mine. I apperciate Snoboarder getting underneath his truck to look at his mounts! Why would Toyota start to reinforce their welds if there wasnt a problem in their earlier models? Seems like it was something that was fixed quietly as Snoboarder stated and they just tried to cover it up and try to screw us (the consumer) over. Thank again everyone on here!

Chris4x4 spotted the design differences, he's the man and deserves all of the credit on this find... I just wanted to do a quick comparison and get the pics up for others to see. I was rather surprised myself when I saw the design changes. Good luck and we all hope Arbitration will rule in your favor!

I just checked my motor mounts on my '05 and as of right now I don't see any issue. Its very interesting to see how they have changed them on the '07s though. Just goes to show that Toyota is well aware that these trucks are having an issue with the motor mounts.

Welcome to TW Colville. Hopefully Toyota takes care of your truck the way they should.

They almost have no case againist me and Im sure Arbitration will favor on my side due to the fact that he can clearly see that Toyota was aware of the problem and fixed it. Also a Metellurgist hopefully will see the weakened frame due to the poor welds. Now if I could only get Cell4Soul to find his court documents that he won aganist Toyota I would almost 100% set!

Its too bad you need to go to this length to get something like this handled. Its very clear there is a problem in that area, and it should have been caught BEFORE the newer Tacomas went to production. ANyone who has welded or engineered frames should know what kind of stresses will be brought forth in that area. To add, as it is very clear that the frames are now reinforced (Im courious as to when this started), Toyota would be better off just admitting the problem and fixing it post haste.

Thanks, SnoBoarder for the props!
