Tacoma paint orangepeel?

I was wondering if anyone else has noticed the difference in the clear coat between the fender flares, front bumper and the rest of the truck. To me they look like Toyota skimped on the bumpers and fender flares. Is there any fix for this other than re-clearing them?

 

That is done to protect the paint from rocks hitting them on the highway, they purposely did that.

The bumper and fenders are made of plastic which never lay down the same as metal.

actually ive never met him, i just hate when people are ass holes; especially on this site, its really not necessary.

 

They look like that because they are textured plastic just like the front bumpers, causing the final appearence to be that way.

 

The flares are textured plastic. That's all there is to it. It's not an orange peel problem or 'laying down' problem (every other vehicle with smooth plastic parts has consistent paint finish with adjacent metal pieces).

It is how the paint lays down because the surface is textured and not completely smooth on the fenders. The front bumper cover is a different issue because it is smooth and not textured like the fenders but the plastic components on the Tacoma aren't as smooth as the metal panels. You will also notice the painted grilles will have a variation as well.

 

My whole truck came with free orange peel clear. Thought is was a new yota option!

when i first bought my truck i thought there was a defect in the paint as well..but just like everyone said,it is there to protect the paint. it doesnt really bother me or stick out at all anymore

 

It's not clear if the OP is referring to the "stone-guard" on the rocker panel areas or just the crappy finish on the ABS components.

The only way to get the smooth look would be to sand the flares/bumper smooth (should be relatively smooth now, given the paint/clear on it) re-paint, then re-clear.

 

His response one may assume may be in regards to our rocker panels. The discussion was about the fender flares. The fender flares were not textured for protection from rocks, etc. If you looked at my photo, you can see these fender flares can be painted to match the metal panels of the truck... you jumping in to fight off ass holes just made you one!

 

You will learn forums are typically a wealth of great information, but you need to read between the lines at times...
