Rear end odd sound

Ya Im curious too he said to pop off the drum cover and clean it out and see what happens but would worn or dirty drums really make that odd of a sound or something that noticeable

 

What brand ujoint did you use

 

I actually dont know the guy just got me some with grease able zerks thats it.

 

so I replaced my front brakes and cleaned out my rear drums and they are in good shape but. I did notice that my right hub bearing when spun made a noise and my left one didnt. It wasnt a clunking or very loud grinding noise but it did make a slight rubbing noise. Does that mean my hub bearing is going out?? Both front wheels have no play in them.

 

update!! I drove 80 miles (from the Inland Empire to SD) today and toward the end of my drive I started hearing a squeaking noise coming from the right front of my truck even when I let off the gas I am thinking because of how that hub bearing was making a rubbing noise that my bearing is going out?? what do you guys think any advice would be appreciated I dont want this thing to go while I am out driving it. I found a bearing assembly for 36 online thinking Ill buy it and have them done but I wanted to see if a hub bearing sounds probable to your guys??

How many miles you have? They might be going out but I don't think it might be the cause for the humming

 

118,000 ya i know its not the humming but I am just curious cause the driver side smooth and quite the passenger side had a noise and I really think its squealing now but it only does it after driving long distances

Fuck this, tomorrow morning I'm sticking my go pro under my truck and let's see if it's the same noise you're hearing...

 

Mine did the same and I cleaned my front and rear brakes extremely well, put some anti squeal lube in the front pads and that totally fixed it.

Yesterday I just put on brand new rotors and brand new ceramic pads and the thing is before my new brakes I could have sworn I was hearing that squeal but thought it was my imagination but its weird cause when I roll down the windows I can hear a thing. Than I roll them up I hear it loud and clear left front side?

 

Haha no worries man...I've had a humming noise somewhere on my truck for about a year now..it annoys the crap out of me everyday

 

Didn't read the whole thread but if its a whining kind of sound I'm thinking your pinion bearing is going out..

 

I just looked up a blown pinion bearing online and it sounds IDENTICAL. So my next question is Why does one of these go out?? and How hard are they to replace?

 

Theres a few reasons why they go, low gear fluid in diff, water getting into diff contaminating it, high mileage, & my own theory, axle wrap...

As far as R&R , You could do it yourself given mech. ability etc; But there are some specialty tools you absolutely need as far as setting the lash & pre load of the pinion itself in relation to meshing with the ring gear in diff.

Personally I haven't done it but I need to as I'm 100% sure mine is going out, funny thing is tho' it could grenade on you tomorrow or it may last the life of ownership..

 

Ya its definitely going out....who knows how long it will last. To put it in simple terms I can hear the spinning of my drive shaft as I am accelerating and the slowing of it decelerating. Leading me to believe your pretty spot on with your assumption. Thanks for the help lets pray I can get this fixed and dealt with!

 

UPDATE: so I dropped the truck off at a shop today to see if he could narrow the problem and he found it. It is looking like my differential is making the noise. So I am about 95% sure its my pinion bearing. He was saying DO NOT DRIVE THIS TRUCK and that it would cost $750 to find the problem plus whatever parts we need. So I am not using him lol
