So I did a search and there was one link that showed how to remove the instrument cluster but the instructions aren't that clear. The first step is to remove the two screws, but on my 2012 there are no screws, instead its two circular plastic pieces. I don't know if I'm supposed to stick something underneath the gap and attempt to pop it out or what?

With that style clip you should be able to push the center in with something (a pen with the ball point retracted or whatever) and the clip should either fall out or get loose enough that you can gently pry it out with a small flat blade screwdriver or something similar. When you push the button in it will just sort of pop in stop again, leave it there.

When it's out just push the pin back out so it sticks out of the 'washer' to reset it then get it in place and just pop the button in flush. Use one hand to hold the trim pieces tight together when you pop the button in or you risk breaking the fastener.
