OME lift...coils rubbing struts (Pics)

Hey guys...had the list for almost a year now and noticed that the front struts have marks on them almost like the coils are rubbing when compressed...

Had my dealer install the lift...what could be causing this to happen, is it normal...should/how can i fix it?

Is it the outer tube of the shock rubbing the paint off the inner tube? My OMEs do that.

Look at the shock.

Imagine what happens when it compresses. See how one half goes into the other half?

Look at the missing paint.

Is paint rub where the upper (larger) sleeve slides over the inner tube?

Then that's probably what it is. The parts of the shock are obviously much closer to each other than the spring.

If the missing paint is on the upper, larger, tube, then you may have a coilover assembly issue where the shock's actually moving laterally inside the spring.

 

Looks like its just the dust cover.

 

I thought only the rear struts were set up that way. I'm having the issue on my front struts.....are the pics above in the first post?

 

Could the dust cover do that?

get the camera in close to the coil, focusing in on the damage. Take a bunch of pics from slightly different positions and select the best one.

I took like six pix in order to get the one above.

 

Ok I'll do that tomorrow.... Are you thinking you'll be able to tell if the dust cover or the coil did the damage based on a closer shot of how the paint is actually worn out?

I think we're all pretty inclined to think it's the dust cover.

But if the missing paint really matched how a spring might hit it, we might think otherwise. But if the spring's really hitting the shock, it'll probably be clunking pretty loud over the bumps too. If it rides smooth and feels normal - then yeah it's probably just the dust cover.

 

Have not had a chance to take pics but will soon. Let's just say it is the coil hitting the strut, what would / could be the cause for his? Does anything look out of the ordinary in my pics from the first post?
