Spark plug changed engine light on

I just changed my plugs and i have done it before, on my 1st gen toyota. I had no problems with, Granted it was not electrical like the my 07 taco. I put everything back and started it and no problem. I woke the next day for work and the check engine light was on. can someone let me know why? my taco 110,000 miles on it does anyone have an answer for my taco? thanks

 

might just have been from misfire get a code reader..

1. Did you use torque wrench to tighten spark plugs ? if Not you may want to get one and make sure they thigh.
2. What spark plugs did you use?
3. Did you check all the hoses and connections you have to take a part to do the work?

 

You'll have to get the code read to be sure. Ensure all the connectors are pressed fully together, you might've not connected one entirely and its an easy thing to check.

 

try unplugging the battery for a few minutes, just to see if it goes away

 

yea just did I unplugged the battery to see if it would reset the system thanks for the reply

it happened to me twice, one time i unplugged my MAF and forgot to plug it in, tried to start the car, couldn't, plugged it in, then started, and check engine light was on, unplugged battery, problem solved

other time, did anytime fog light mod, check engine light was on, unplugged battery, problem solved, and both those times, prior to unplugging battery, i took key out and restarted, but light was still on,

Its possible that the electrode tip may have become damaged during the install. Assuming you used iridium tipped plugs, iridium tipped spark plugs come pre-gapped for the intended vehicle application and its not necessary to adjust the gap for newer vehicles. If you do adjust it to the exact spec (since pre-gapped plugs are still off by a bit), you aren't supposed to apply any pressure to the tip itself, and only adjust the arm that swings over the tip to create gap. Wrong gap or damaged electrode can cause a misfire.

Could also be the existing fuel trims from your old set of spark plugs may still also be present in the ECU, and the timing is trying to be run under profile with the worn spark plugs. ECU reset would clear the fuel trims and allow the ECU to relearn the new trims, and avoid any misfires..based off the description.

 

Well thanks for all the advise. Unpluging the battery worked. lets see if it stays off if not gonna get the light checked and many thanks to all that helped out on my problem
