leaf springs

Hey guys I need a little guidance. I just bought new shocks for the taco and with my two 450s (dirtbikes) in the bed ill hit a bump and my truck will hit bumpstops. I need stronger leafs. I've looked around and I don't wanna aal. Any ideas

I was quoted a custom built set from Alcan for a little over 500 before shipping

 

if you don't wanna lift get some custom alcans. also new bumstops would help a lot with handling a big load. for 1500 you could get a great set up. hell you could throw in some bilstein 5100's front and rear to make your ride even better

 

If he's hauling dirt bikes, he should get a custom set, the set I'm going to have them make is for two inches of settled lift but will handle all the weight i carry.

 

I bought a set of Alcan sprigs a bout a year ago.

One of the best parts about ordering from them is you can have them build in a preload.

I had the stock springs on my truck and I have a camper shell, The shell is about 250 lbs and I have a high lift jack in the back. So all and all about 300 lbs. I would bottom out on speed bumps.

So I asked them what they could do and he said he could set it with a 400 lbs of preload.. So now I can put 400lbs in the back before the truck starts to flex. If you haul a lot including your bike, have him set you up with a preload. You can go much stiffer on the preload but it gets a little bouncy when you are unloaded.

Keep in mind if you want to lift your truck or level it out too. The Expo springs will give you an 1.5 inches of lift, so if you are stock in the front adding 1.5 to the back will make you look like an old school dragster.

 

I have a rack and shell that weigh 460lbs, i did a bunch of research, talked with fellow members and then talked to Alcan, it appears that this is the best option for me and probably the OP. The problem OP, is that these leafs are not really designed to haul even to the payload limit without bottoming out. And in my case the cap and rack crushed my leafs within a year or so.
