The lending rates fluctuate, as well, so the best rate this month may not be the same next month. It also depends on how much you are financing and the term.

You don't have to use the dealer, BTW. You can find your own credit union or insitution that gives the best rate. The dealer will only you give the best rate from among their affiliates.

The current national avg for a 60 month auto terms is 4.47%. If you have really good credit(800 and above) you can likely find a lender to give you a loan for less than 2%--especially credit unions.

Anything between 750-800 you probably can get a loan between 2.5% and 3.0 % Anything worse than 750, you are looking at probably 4% and higher, the lower the score, the higher the rate.

Basically, anything under 2%, you got a good interest rate. Anything above 2 is so-so. Avod the dealer if at all possible. You will not come away with anything under 2%, unless it is a special 0% incentive offer or something of that nature. Most buyer don't realize that they may think they got a good deal on their vehicle but they got raped by the dealer on interest rates. The dealer makes much of their profits this way.

I use both of these credit unions, one has a good interest rate for checking / saving, the other I can never find a better deal when I want a car loan, motorcycle, personal loan.. etc. I just refinanced with JSC credit union though to answer your question.

Toyota Financial matched my USAA at 2.25%. I saw 1.99 at Pentagon Federal CU if you have access to them.

USAA quoted me 3.49 last December on a 60 month loan, dealer countered that with 2.99% when I bought it so I went with TFS. I have an excellent credit rating... it'll drive you crazy to watch the rates go up and down so your best bet is to figure out how long you want the loan for, then search out the best rate at the time you want to buy. Remember you can walk into the dealer with financing in hand - you dont have to finance through Toyota.

Thanks for the advice. I am going to use my bank against TFS. I am just looking to secure 3.0 %; but we will see! Thanks again for the feedback

Get a letter from your bank/credit union with a pre-qualified rate and bring it with you, but don't tell the finance guy. See what rate he quotes you. If it's lower than what you have, go with it. If it's higher than what you already have tell him the rate that you have and see if he can beat it. If he just matches it, tell him that it's easier for you to go with your bank since you already do business with them. Make him beat your rate be enough to make it worth it to you. Don't forget to ask your bank if they offer a discounted rate for auto-payment.
