My light comes on right before it hits E. I usaully get 300-325 miles at E. I have put in 20 gallons once. Still only getting 16mpg...kinda sucks..

I would be too scared to let it run that low. I've heard letting it run out or way past the light coming can damage the pump.

Stick to flat ground if you run it down that low. Steep grades means the fuel runs to the ends of the tank, usually the pump pickup is closer to the front than the rear, so upgrades are more of an issue. The manager at my work ran his F150 out of gas in his sloped driveway twice this way, until I clued him in as to what was happening. The tank is almost 8' long though, so it ran dry with 1/8 tank.

    Lots to come
How many times filling up past the first shut off does it take before this thing goes bad? In all of my vehicles and years of driving I have always ran a couple dollars past the first shut off, never had any problems. Not challenging you, just asking.

What is the indication this thing is going/gone bad?

Spoke to my mechanic yesterday. This 'over filling' caution applies to older cars from 70's to early 90's. It's old school thinking.
