Last week some guy blows through an intersection withoutstopping, then bam! Nails me on the left side. He hit the left rear wheel sohard the rear axle shifted over, bent the frame, and pulled the drive shaft outof the transmission. Insurance called me and said it’s a total loss. For threedays I was stressing thinking about how low the offer would be from theinsurance co. Well today they left a voicemail and listening to it I almost wetmy pants. They want to offer me $31,900 for a 2011 DC/SB Sport with 60k on theclock, when I paid out $29,800 OTD back in October 2010. This coming Monday I’llcall them and mention the new tires I put on last month and the $1.100 tonneaucover I put on and see if I could squeeze out a little bit more $$.

Is this normal with Insurance companies to pay out like this?Or maybe I just lucked out.

I'd say take the tonneau off and sell it,or get the same color when you buy a new one.I would imagine that they already took the tonneau into account, and the tires. I guess you could try,but they might not take it favorably. If you're ahead that far I wouldn't push my luck..

It is fairly normal IF the insurance company is reputable. I pocketed a good chunk after my Jetta was totaled not too long ago (still at chiropractors...)

    Don't complain! :D

EDIT: I was told I could take anything i put in the car off--so ask about the tonneau cover and I bet you can get it back, unless it was included in the offer to you already.

Wow! I took the first offer for my situation but am extremely happy with how it came out. Sounds like you got a great deal.

Wow, hope you get well soon, or at least make some steady improvement! My "little" accident (rearended by a Ford Explorer at 20-25 in a mk3 Jetta) has given me tons more respect for people in your type of situation.

I always wear my seatbelt though, habit :)

As nice as my check for almost 4 times what I paid for my car was, medical issues suck, back and neck are not normal yet.

If you still have access to the truck would you be willing to pull the lower dash center pannel? The one with the aux port on it. I really want one for my truck!

I had a reg cab totaled that I bought new. Insurance paid out more than I bought it for less than a year earlier. Only thing I lost money on was the camper shell.

Yeah I've watched his video a few times... the huge blood stains get me every time.. Hope your recovery goes well Idaholandho.

As for the OP: Doesnt hurt to ask. But be nice about it. Count your blessings - at least you werent hurt, and you'll get a brand new truck out of it (even though your '11 wasnt too old!) Good luck.

Oh and before someone else says it: Shoulda had sliders :D :D

Vultures get out of here! I hate seeing people just trying to piece out someones baby when they post about it getting smashed up...
